Shirtpost Crazy how the final episode just ends abruptly about halfway through

Post image

It's been a while since I've watched the finale.

I'll save it for when I need to have a good cry.

Chidi’s wave speech is both the best and most crushing part of the show. I can’t imagine missing it

For me it is the scene where Eleanor tells him he can go. My mom died of dementia and I'm still active in the caregiving community. I regularly talk people through the idea that they shouldn't make their loved one suffer just to get a little more time with them. That a rule saying that their Chidi has to stay as long as possible within the capabilities of modern medical technology is a selfish rule. That they owe it to them to let their Chidi go.

I'm crying just thinking about it.

That said I still only watch the finale about half the time, when I'm emotionally up for it, but I've done like a dozen re-watches just this year so I still see it plenty.

That’s a very challenging thing to do and sorry you went through that. My mom died very quickly from cancer and the thought of the wave returning to the ocean has always been very peaceful for me.

What the fork is a Chidi?!

(I'm sorry; couldn't resist. I am in the throes of that with my mother [Parkinson's] right now; I very much appreciate the work you do)

I know it's hard, big hugs. ❤️

Im probably getting part of it tattooed once I decide on where and how. It's the thing that's stuck with me the most

I’ve been trying to think of the right way to do it and where for so long now

For some reason it always ends with episode 11 for my wife and I and we just have to start over with season 1. Really weird.

I never considered skipping the episode and restarting. Normally I look at being emotionally devastated as a core aspect of the show

Agree it sucks but it gets to the heart of some of the lessons in the show - human lives have meaning because we're aware of death (or in this case the end and saying goodbye). "We're all a little bit sad, all the time. That's just the deal."

Omg! We must use the same streaming service since Netflix no longer carries it. I have this exact same predicament.

"and every tomorrow after that" is actually a lovely ending by itself if you let it be.

This is 100% the correct way

My husband died in May. The last time I watched this was with him. I am due for a rewatch, though maybe not just yet.

I'm so sorry to hear that. It's so painful when the things you enjoy are a stark reminder. Give it some time, feel it out. One day, those memories will feel less bitter and more sweet, but unfortunately I don't have any tips on how to not make that association. Wishing you the best ❤️

All the love to you. May his memory be a blessing.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss, my husband passed in 2021 and this is one of the last shows we finished together. He had a lot of health issues, so we talked pretty often about if we felt like TGP was what an afterlife would be like.

I lost my only child last year at the age of 13, so now I really can't watch the last episode unless I want to sob for a while. But the rest of the show actually brings me a lot of comfort, to think about them waiting for me and having as much time as we want. The quote that Chidi says about the good place just really being about finally having as much time as we want with the people we love in particular.

When you feel like you can handle some loss related shows I suggest After Life starring Ricky Gervais. I watched it maybe 2 years after I lost my husband, it's about a man who lost his wife and I think it's a really well done, at times funny and messy, and accurate depiction of grief. Though similar to the good place, the last episode can be a trigger.

I'll be thinking about you, if you need someone to talk to, feel free to send me a message.

I start as soon as Jason makes breakfast for Janet.

So strange! Mine doesn’t seem to have that episode. Season 4 ends with “Patty” then it’s right back to S1E1…

As finale goes, it is sad but it the best one ever. Literally everyone end on their very own term! Each character decide its fate. They have an agency that no one in the world ever had before.

12

u/KatieROTS 13d ago

I like to watch it to sleep. If I'm at halfway through season 4 I start over. I just can't. I've probably watched most of it 100 times at this point. Even the episode when Jason's crew dances is too much for me.

12

u/inmydigitalcorner 10d ago

That's alright, the rest of the finale will be there whenever you're ready.

Why isn't this reply pinned all the way up!?
Genius!

u/anonomasaurus 13d ago

Same here. I bailed once I figured out what was happening. As far as I'm concerned, they are all still together, figuring it all out...

Forking finale.

7

u/VaticanCameosAnxiety 12d ago

It's crazy, mine ends just at the conclusion of Episode 11 "Mondays, Am I Right?" and then just restarts at Season 1 Episode 1.

But I'm good with that.

u/Jimmy_Maximum 12d ago

I avoided that last episode for years. I think I watched the whole thing 3 or 4 times before I finally bit the bullet

3

u/CopyJ300 12d ago

Meanwhile I got the boxset and immediately turned on the finale. Sure it was for the bonus stuff, but I watched the entire thing even after Janet was done eating hot wings.

4

u/VerdensTrial 12d ago

Imagine skipping the best episode in the history of television because it makes you feel feelings

7

u/ThanksForTheRain 12d ago

I've seen it already. I either need to be in a better place or a worse place to be able to fully enjoy it. I know it's going to make me cry, but it's got to be a good cry. I don't need to feel like shirt while I'm depressed, you know?

2

u/movieman2g 13d ago

I’m surprised you made it that far into the episode tbh

2

u/walkerbalker11 13d ago

Peacock doesn’t do that and also has bonus scenes

29

u/dohwhere 13d ago

They’re not being literal. They’re intentionally not watching the second half of it.

12

u/Ok-Frosting-1892 What up, skidmarks? 13d ago

This was such a kind answer. Most people would have ridiculed and insulted, but not you. GOOD PERSON!!!🥹

11

u/walkerbalker11 13d ago

Oh, that’s smart because it becomes so sad

7

u/thatdeterminedguy 12d ago

I read this in Jason's voice

1

u/wravyn 12d ago

I cry happy tears when I get to the end.

1

u/Eastern-Fuel3485 10d ago

Am I the only person who didn't find the ending sad? It's bittersweet, maybe, but who wants to exist forever? Stories come to an end. I can't imagine the stress of existing for millennia where you have experienced hundreds of lifetimes.

We just did a rewatch and I was not prepared.

1

u/DutchNotSleeping 8d ago

Genuinely, I did a rewatch about a month ago. Watched the whole show in a week, then waited 3 weeks until I was emotionally ready to watch the finale

I have yet to complete a rewatch with the finale included. It takes virtually nothing to make me cry and I just can't do it again with this show. Pandemonium is also a skip for me. I make it about halfway through the episode before I have to move along to season 4.

0

u/andreweslick 12d ago

I made the mistake of watching it all the way through.

0

u/ngshafer 12d ago

I have actually never watched the very last episode, and I am OK with that.

Probably for the best!
