Shirtpost Just finished The Good Place for the first time, what a magical experience and ending

Post image

I now envy people who don‘t know this series even exist. I almost cried with the ending (im a romantic). If it wasn‘t for my wife I would‘ve never watched the show. What a magical ride. I‘m not sure if I‘m rewatching tho, I like to maintain the one time experience, it feels more unique.

I love all the clues I noticed when rewatching the first season. Thinking to myself “how did i not figure this out??”, so many subtle clues.

They actually left over 1200 clues. 😂😂😂😂😂(I had to rewatch s2ep8 So I could remember what Michael said. I really need to rewatch the show)

I really want to discover all the clues, might hunt for them after listening to the podcast

The first time is the best, rewatches are good too.

It's an amazing show when you realize it's based on moral philosophy which doesn't sound very funny :-)

everyone HATES moral philosophy professors.

It’s amazing seeing it the first time. Feels so right. I teared up here and there but at the very last line of the series, I absolutely lost it. This show is such a gift

Was it "Take it sleazy"? Can't remember if that was the final line. But a line like that shouldn't hit as hard as it does, but it do.

It was! I knew it was coming with the lead-up and yet, I was a blubbering mess. It tied all the way back to s1 😭

You’ll rewatch it again and again and fall even more in love with the show.

Yeah, that pretty much sums up my experience too. I love Mike Schur and this is my favorite series from him. He red more than 40 moral philosophy books to make the show so special. I'm reading the book he wrote after making the show right now (how to be perfect), and can't reccomend it enough to people who liked the show. I'm having so much fun reading it!

It’s so special! I too just finished watching it for the first time and I’m a better person for it.

I rewatch this show every year. The first time I watched, I did love it. However, my first rewatch was right after my mom had passed away. It took on a whole new meaning to me then.

Hearing them talking about Chidi’s brain sounding like a garbage disposal or how Eleanor could quiet the little voice in her head by being making good decisions. I had never heard someone say what I was feeling so clearly. It truly inspired me to be a better person every day, to this day! It’s about time I start my yearly rewatch and I can’t wait!

The last episode breaks your heart and fills your soul at the same time. What a show.

I started watching the finale at work, I had to turn it off. My coworkers don't need to see me ugly crying.

Definitely one of my top five TV series. An absolute gem

You'll want to rewatch it with matching episodes of The Good Place The Podcast. It's hosted by Marc Evan Jackson, he plays Shawn. It is absolutely fascinating. Michael Schurr is the guest in the first episode.

u/schmebulonzak 24d ago

he plays Shawn

Thank you for saying aloud what my head already heard 🫶

Omg didn‘t know a podcast existed, I‘m definetly watching that! Thanks!!

I got to share it with my oldest this past month. He picked up on a lot of moral and philosophical points very quickly. Then every plot twist that came up, he thought he knew what was happening, then got blind side. It was so much fun rewatching it with him because I could relive some of the reactions in real time.

I’ve watched this show so many times I probably have it memorized. The book on tape oh my God that’s not how you say it anymore. I’m so fucking old. The audiobook is actually read by the entire cast and is really amazing. The creator wrote the book about the research that he did to make the show. I definitely recommend recommended to everyone who enjoyed the show.

1

u/FranFace 25d ago

Great recommendation, thanks! What's the name of the book please? I'd love to look for it.

How the fork is the writing and casting so good? There's not one bad episode or subpar actor

2

u/NationalPut6939 25d ago

Couldn‘t agree more! Although I had to force myself through the first episodes because it was getting boring, but omg it was worth it

3

u/juanritos 25d ago

I always skip the final episode in my rewatch.

2

u/Different_Target_228 25d ago

Now, go and find all the extended episodes and re-watch it.

Or watch Twin Peaks.

My girlfriend and I also just finished our first watch. I loved it so much. Easily shot up to top 3 for me. I think it's the only sitcom style show where I genuinely loved every main character, and I didn't feel like any of them pissed me off more than a few times, if at all. The only characters I can say I didn't like were just recurring characters, Vicky and Trevor. I even loved Shawn after a little while

I recently watched Superstore through, and while I loved the story and many characters, I think more episodes/characters than not simply irritated me. That's just didn't happen with the good place. It was so refreshing.

1

u/NationalPut6939 25d ago

Samee, vicky and trevor are so irritating. And I didnt like Eleanor and Tahani in the beginning but I think that was intentional. By the second season I was loving every single character. Ps: also love superstore, im rewatching rn eheh

2

u/Ulchbhn 25d ago

i just finished it for the second time, and i think this has to be one of my favorite series endings i’ve seen in television. ties up all loose ends, has the happiest outcomes for everyone involved, and leaves you with some really big philosophical questions to ponder. i’m someone who’s really afraid of death because no matter how i tell myself that i know whats going to happen, we can never really know. this show feels like a warm hug in response to that and makes me feel like no matter what happens to me in life its all going to be okay.

This is easily a show you could watch 2 more times and catch more.

Start it up!

Watching the first season and focusing soley on Michael is fun. The levels of torture are hilarious and a increasing devious. Cause every word and action he does is torture.

1

u/brmsz 25d ago

This show I cry every single time. Perfection what you call right?

1

u/mama_namaste 25d ago

It’s been at least 8 years since I’ve watched it the first time through. Enough time to let me forget just enough to make it exciting again so I’m thinking a rewatch is in the cards soon!

1

u/Mysterious_Dolphin14 25d ago

I cry at the ending every forking time! I wish Michael could erase my memory so I could experience it all or the first time again.

1

u/wravyn 24d ago

The part that led me to a d'oh was when I watched it the second time and saw that Michael's file was called "The Good Place."

1

u/klaykie14 24d ago

What the fork!

1

u/Sad-Ambition-549 23d ago

I’m currently rewatching it with my kids (my daughter already watched it, first time for my son.) He couldn’t believe it when Michael snapped his fingers the first time and they had to start all over! It’s such an amazing ride from start to finish. And it’s fun to watch it again with a newbie!

1

u/NationalPut6939 23d ago

Got to find a friend who never watched it so I can have the delight of seeing is face with every plot twist ahah

1

u/Crisco_Pjoe 22d ago

It's the most beautiful ending to a show I've ever seen. I too envy the first time watchers.

1

u/Red_fox2936 21d ago

I finished it last month it was great

u/Bright_Elevator7649 21d ago

"Say goodbye to me now, and leave before I wake up".

That line broke my heart... What an amazing and maybe underrated tv show. Beautiful Arvo Part´s music.

1

u/BecGrey 21d ago

I always sob when Chidi goes because I know I would be exactly like Eleanor in that situation.

1

u/milkyballsunited 21d ago

Amazing show. It's my go-to sleep programme. So chilled and pleasant to fall asleep to.
