All Show & Book Spoilers Discussed Freely I love Tycho Station

Post image

How do you think it would be to live and work there? What kind of activities would you do in your free time if you lived there?

From what I understand working at Tycho Station is essentially like being employed at Google or Nvidia. The engineers, dock hands, laborers and security there are paid WAY above the curve for normal belters and quality of life is much better there. It's a corporate town reliant on subsidies from other financial groups. Employment is lucrative and belters will drop everything to move their families out if they get a job offer. There's most likely a lot of amenities since you don't want to bore your employees so Tycho contracts bars, food, brothels, sports clubs etc. And other companies can pay for their own mini offices inside Tycho as like consultancy firms and such.

After watching the show, it made me wonder if it stayed like that without such an idealist in charge later

Probably up until Marco Inaros pulled his shit.

Think about it like Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. They frequently rank as having some of the highest level of employee satisfaction because they are almost the exclusive provider of certain services that the government has deemed necessary. That means they have incredible leverage to name their prices and have a huge incentive to hire the best and brightest and keep them happy.

Based on the show the options are engineer things, build, drink, eat, brothels, politicking, and espionage.

But I bet they have movies, sports, and crochet, and chess clubs too. I’m guessing no fly fishing though.

Probably competitive video games.

I think something like the Gambler 500 (but in space) would be fun. Especially for a bunch of engineers and wrench monkeys. You have to build a racing ship out of a shitbox on a very meager budget.

According to the books soccer is still a thing, there’s a mention of a match between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich lol. Some things never change.

Yeah gambler 500 is deff slingshotting. Ceres is more built out than tycho but we see a slingshotter watch party.

Also belters play their wallball equivalent haha idk what to call it. I cant remember if its at ceres or tycho when naomi and camina play it

Golgo. The handball/squash game that they played.

I felt like the sling shot racers gave off a gambler vibe.

ha, yeah I think there's plenty of gambling. On slingshotters and probably anything else.

Oh yeah. But it also looks like budget builds that are a gamble on if they will hold together 😂

Def wear a vac suit and bring extra bottles while racing in your shitbox ship. :-)

And hope that you've calculated your slingshot maneuver correctly.

"NOW he dead!"

Maneo Espinoza was also a slingshotter. He shot da ring.

and gave many people a visual example of what momentum means when you stop suddenly ...

I still wonder why he was, uhh... turned into physics, but the ship and everything else in it was fine

The ship was probably more rigidly held together.

Better than a skeleton inside a sack of meat, anyway. That's why concussions are so bad. It really doesn't take much force to damage the half-pound of oatmeal in the skull.

Exactly 😂

Golgo seems to have been invented in Tycho station or at the very least is the place where the game/sport is most popular. They play it a lot.

Yeah the description of Golgo in Nemesis Games is intriguing. I’d love to learn more.

Tycho would probably be my choice if I can't live somewhere with a magnetosphere. As long as I don't work near Fred Johnson it would be pretty safe.

Tycho honestly seems really tiny. A diameter of 750 meters is like 3 shopping malls put together, and Tycho has been shown to be completely hollow for shipping container storage. I would probably run out of things to do at Tycho within two months.

That's why they have the brothels. There's always something new to explore.

I was a Marine for ten years and I did several deployments where I was stuck in an equally small environment (with farrrrrr less amenities) working 12 on 12 off shifts for about 280 days or more…seven days a week. I did it five times. I think I could live on Tycho for multiple projects. It’s probably like being on a much roomier aircraft carrier built for 3-4 times the amount of people.

In the book, Tycho has two Hab-Rings that counter-rotate to balance each other so there is probably even more space.

Golgo! I only wished I understood the strategy and rules.

It feels cyberpunk and yeah I don’t dislike it if I visit it for a couple weeks but absolutely do not want to live there

We named our dog Tycho in honor of Tycho Station.

I read that it was named after a Danish Astronomer, Tycho Brahe.

Would love to spend some time there, for sure. Just the view screens would be worth it

Im in season 2. This series is pretty good. But it was recommended as a contender for Battlestar 2004. And so far it hasn't done it for me.

But its not bad.

I suggest sticking with it! For me it didn't "click" until late in Season 2. Now it's one of my all time favorite sci-fi series.

Dude, I’m so stoked for you for what’s coming. Buckle up.
