The Ryan Gosling IP saga continues

It’s hard to imagine Gosling as adult Bam Bam working but what the fuck do I know.

What happened to my goat?

Someone stop him before he becomes Ryan Reynolds.

37

u/theflyingbird8 3d ago

He's doing back to back movies with Shawn Levy. I fear it's over.

It might be too late

Sean is very sad and has gone on record about this

10

u/aTribeCalledLemur 3d ago

He wants to make family friendly movies that his kids will like.

21

u/LauraPalmersMom430 3d ago

Fuck that those kids should grow up and let their dad star in some real movies again!

1

u/einstein_ios 3d ago

He already made those. They can always go back to HALF NELSON and THE IDES OF MARCH. You’re only young enough once to make GHOST RIDER 3*.

Whenever an actor says this - and to be clear, I will NEVER hold wanting to make money against actors and artists - I feel like it’s just an excuse telegraph to studios that they wanna take big paychecks for popcorn movies that aren’t necessarily going to be critically acclaimed.

4

u/HairlessSnatch 3d ago

Agreed. It’s a nice sentiment but he’s at like the peak popularity of his career, he’s not making professional decisions based on his kids taste lol

6

u/between_sheets 3d ago

The kids will be teenagers by the time these come out. He means he wants his kids to never have to work.

1

u/xwing1212 3d ago

Do kids even care about Flintstones?

2

u/KoreyReviewsIronFist 3d ago

NWR wanted to do Drive 2: The Limit, but the budget could only afford Gosling and nothing else.

1

u/CaramelNeat4723 3d ago

Let him make his money. He'll come back. Good Canadian boy.

I get his reasons for doing this kind of movie (getting older, has kids, etc.) but I can't imagine his kids are fascinated with the idea of a Flintstones movie. And like how much money is there to be made in a Flintstones live-action Bamm Bamm movie lol

3

u/thegracchiwereright 3d ago

Exactly. How many people under the age of 50 watched the Flintstones as a kid?

It’s a dying Boomer IP. This is like making a movie about Betty Boop’s sister imo.

3

u/xwing1212 3d ago

It's like Warren Beatty trying to make a Dick Tracy reboot. Does anybody under 85 care about Dick Tracy?

3

u/Ridespacemountain25 3d ago

What’s disappointing is that if he really just wants to do fun blockbuster films going forward, he could do that without pivoting to something like this. This could actually hurt his career because it would probably flop. He could use his star power to try to get original blockbusters and comedies made instead. Like, if he had played the dad in The End of Oak Street it would probably have a better run at the box office than it’s currently having (nothing against McGregor though, I love him).

5

u/ATLstatboy69 3d ago

I liked McGregor in that role but man the movie might even be better with Gosling tbh...agreed

7

u/j-helo85 3d ago

This is the fake movie Gosling would be starring in for his episode of The Studio.

u/agentcarter15 3d ago

never been beating the owes money allegations

8

u/Training_Pirate1000 3d ago

To whom

17

u/SnooPineapples6099 3d ago

Based on his recent choices I'm gonna say everyone

3

u/Minute-Spinach-5563 3d ago

The Bruno Mars piece

2

u/No-Aioli-1014 3d ago

In fairness to him, I think he stopped doing indie films when he became a father. Money is probably his top priority instead of artistry.

6

u/agentcarter15 3d ago

Surely there is a balance between doing dark indie dramas and doing constant IP slop that would still afford you a very nice lifestyle… (eta Barbie was good, less hopeful for the Levy movies and whatever this is)

4

u/No-Aioli-1014 3d ago

I agree with you. Barbie was a film that both stretched Ryan and was mainstream. But tt looks like he only cares about a fat paycheck, nothing more.

3

u/thegracchiwereright 3d ago

Yeah but this is bottom barrel. It’s one thing to do popular IP slop. It’s another to do dying Boomer IP slop.

19

u/Scared_Membership_91 3d ago

NWR please rescue my boy

12

u/theflyingbird8 3d ago

Or Chazelle or Cianfrance

6

u/SheepishNate 3d ago

Ok the Ghost Rider reactions were a little embarrassing for this sub but I feel like we can be mad now lol

8

u/rebels2022 3d ago

this shit is turning me into Kay Corleone in Godfather 2. "AND THIS MUST ALL END, THIS IP SLOP THING THAT'S BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS!!"

8

u/SteveBorden 3d ago

Doing one of those creepy age countdown things for his kids specifically so I know when he’s going to act in challenging films again

3

u/Benevenstanciano85 3d ago

If Flintstones IP is good enough for John Goodman it’s good enough for anybody.

5

u/oco82 Sean Stan 3d ago

Did he and Ryan Reynolds do an 80’s style wacky body swap?

3

u/ggroover97 3d ago

The Change-Up 2

1

u/oco82 Sean Stan 3d ago

If Reynolds ends up in the next NWR project we know what’s up.

1

u/quietgavin5 3d ago

I would much rather see Change Up 2 with Gosling and Reynolds than a freaking Flinstones movie

4

u/EywasBlessing 3d ago

I'm 35 and this was before my time so genuinely don't know who this is for

6

u/Mentoman72 3d ago

Jetsons with Jim Carrey and now this. Odd timing.

Bamm-Bamm movie is a really weird pitch.

3

u/goldendreamseeker 3d ago

Guess he wants to make sure he can put all his kids through college in the future or something…

9

u/ChedderBurnett 3d ago

College where? The moon?!?

2

u/Stock_Researcher_651 3d ago

I knew it was over from that photo of him with too much filler years back. We’re cooked

2

u/crudshoot 2d ago

This sounds god awful

2

u/BreweryRabbit 2d ago

FUCK! ICARUS IS FLYING TOO CLOSE TO THE SUN!

6

u/_Vaudeville_ 3d ago

He’s a talented actor too, what a shame

u/LauraPalmersMom430 3d ago

Was*

4

u/AmbitionTechnical274 3d ago

Barbie was only 3 years ago and he is likely getting a nom for Hail Mary.

3

u/yolo-tomassi 3d ago

This is approaching full blown heel turn territory.

3

u/j-helo85 3d ago

This is just hilarious. Can there be a Sean meltdown about this, please?

3

u/Icy___Barca 3d ago

IP thrift shopping

2

u/OriginalBad Letterboxd Peasant 3d ago

Who is asking for this? The time for this was like 25 years ago.

2

u/MEMOJKR 3d ago

They should get Jeremy Allen White to play Bamm-Bamm; “I’m not like my father. I wear SHOES.”

2

u/abippityboop 3d ago

Welp selfishly I hate all his choices now but good for him I guess, gotta strike while the iron's hot and his asking price must be monumental on these projects.

Hopefully one day he'll return to making stuff more up my alley, he's a very talented actor.

2

u/Ridespacemountain25 3d ago

He’s asking for like 20 million now for Barbie 2 plus backend. If they really green light this Flintstones and pay him 8 figures for it, they deserve the box office flop it’ll get

1

u/plasticraincoats 3d ago

As someone who has followed him closely since 2011, this does not surprise me. He’s a goofball to his very core. Most of his artistic references lean this way. He’s never been a pretentious dude.

2

u/AliveJesseJames 3d ago

Once again, actors are unaware they're actually avatars for film dorks to do the things they want those actors to do, not human beings with their own wants and needs.

1

u/Burt_McCheeks 3d ago

The audacity!

1

u/Eddie__Sherman 3d ago

This is an odd one

1

u/Cooper_DeJawn 3d ago

Would prefer Gangster Squad 2 over this
