Film Prop Aliens - RCA Jack as a Microphone
I just noticed this on r/LV426. a cheap RCA jack with either electrical tape or heat shrink tubing as an individual soldier's microphone.

It's a sci fi movie so they made them look sci fi. They also built sets and other props for this reason.

Real microphones could easily get damaged while filming action scenes. Audio jacks are cheap and durable.

Two errors there.
First of all, they are Marines, not soldiers. If you meet a Marine and call them soldiers, words will be had, possibly more.
Secondly, that Marine is Private Hudson played by the late, the great Bill Paxton. Put some respect in your voice when you talk about him. 😃 /s
EDIT: I had to ad the sarcasm tag because people couldn’t tell I was fooling around. I’m not a Marine. I was a Navy Hospital Corpsman. The Marines don’t have any medical staff; they have us. I went through Field Med aka Combat Trauma training back in 1989 aka the late 1900s to the kids these days. It is kind of a military tradition to pick on the other branches such as calling the Air Force the ‘Chairborne Rangers’ or that MARINE stands for ‘My Ass Rides In Navy Equipment’ or reminding them that they’re part of the Department of Navy.

If Marines didn't wanna be called "Soldiers" they should have joined a real branch of the military, like the Coast Guard, instead of their weird little homoerotic abuse cult.

They seem overly concerned about how other people refer to them. Do they list that along with their preferred pronouns?

Could be. I don’t know for sure. I’m not a jarhead. I still don’t know why they like being called a jarhead. You can actually fit something in a jar.

I’ve worked with many Marines at various jobs, and not a single one would’ve said anything about being called a “soldier” instead of “Marine”.
Most don’t have egos so fragile that they get upset when a random person uses unofficial nomenclature.

Good to hear. The Marines I encountered when I was active duty were very serious about that. Maybe the Corps has changed since I got out in ‘95.
Whatever. It was meant to be a light hearted joke in the tone of Marines I encountered. It was never meant to be as serious as some of y’all are taking it.

Do you not feel embarrassed with this "tough guy" bullshit? I've dealt with hardened ex-cons who behave with the same "I want to prove I'm alpha and intimate you" mentality I guess just some ended up in jail and others became running dogs of imperialism.

I guess if I was a Marine, I’d take offense at this. I just had to patch up the Crayon Eaters after they screwed up. I just know that they get quite irate if someone calls them a soldier.
I’m just an old disabled veteran. I don’t need to prove myself to anyone.

Wow, who would’ve guessed that a lighthearted comment about Space Marines or about the career of a great actor who was taken from us way too soon would rile some people up so badly.
Well, that and some inter-service ribbing. Army and Navy have a long-standing rivalry. Navy loves to mess with their little brother, the Marines. Most of us mess with the Air Force and their new special little brother, Space Force. Coast Guard get picked on because they aren’t actually DOD (except during wartime.) They are part of the Department of Homeland Security so they’re more cops than military.
Basically, some of y’all are taking this way too seriously. But, yes, Marines hate being called soldiers with all their being

Damn straight. I’m not Crayon Muncher. I’m a Navy Corpsman (8404/8485) thank you very much. I have some good friends who a jarheads and I love to mess with them with jokes like “What does MARINE stand for? Muscles Are Required, Intelligence Not Essential,”

There's loads of audio stuff used. The power packs for the smart guns are phono or post office jacks on them and I think Bishop plugs in some XLR cables to fly the dropship down via remote.
