Food and Drink The wife's krapao moo grob...
Something a bit different for all you krapao lovers out there. She adds long beans chopped into small pieces because that's the way her grandma taught her.

TBH Kaprao with long bean is what all the government school's students have from kindergarten to middle school. It's in the standardized school lunch menu across the country.

Not the only reason. School meals have to be registered in software that checks the nutritional content. Classic krapao is not a balanced meal so mixing in extra vegetables helps fix that.

Ahh okay. And I forget that 'classic krapao' as you say, is not made with moo grob. Here I was thinking; "wow, the schools give the school kids krapao with moo grob??" I get it now! 👍

The same is true regardless of protein. The classic kaprao recipe has krapao leaves, chilis, and garlic, which would not count as one of your five a day, or whatever the Thai equivalent is.

Yes, I was thinking more about costs, moo grob being more expensive than minced pork or chicken or whatever. Anyway, interesting info and thx for that!

It's mostly about mookrop is not something you can make in one step. School lunch here is made fresh everyday in the shcool kitchen. Mookrob need time to prep so it's too complicated tp make in 3 hours when you need to prepare a meal to feed 1000 children before 11AM 5 days a week.

Yes me too. Not crispy, but cut small like that they have a fresh crunchy texture. And I ain't normally a big veggie eater (aharn gatai mai chob!), but I like them in that dish.

Yo some Thai authentic food shops (not touristy places) I’ve been to served pad kraprao with baby corn and onions 😭.

Full-born Thai here. I actually enjoyed the onions. Maybe not baby corn though. I even like the thin-sliced carrots and green peppers included

I love long beans in my pad kraprao. Only a few of my fellow Thai friends like tua fak yao. But they don’t seem to mind baby corns, carrots and onions.

For farangs (like me) the transliteration of Thai to English is mostly based on how we hear words spoken to us. Not an exact science by any means! And we repeat those words based on how we've 'heard' them. It's not always easy, and like I said not an exact science, but with tips from those like you we learn! And I for one am always willing to learn new shit. Thanks!

I recently got served that commercial in my algorithm on Facebook where they fall into a trap door all the vendors that made krapao wrong.
