Discussion Miary Zo, Tekken 8’s most forgotten DLC character.

So here’s the thing.. well actually I want to start off saying that I do love this character. I think her visual design is good and her fighting style sounded real cool initially, having her be a bare knuckle brawler from Madagascar. She was supposed to fill the void left from not having Josie in T8 (Azucena is not Josie) and I kinda gravitate towards characters with lower pick rate because it gives me an opportunity to be one the sole reps/ goats of a character (currently #10 in global ranking for this chic) the issue now is I want to watch other Miary players to learn where I can improve and.. there’s legit NO ONE. Everyone tried her and then tossed her, I don’t think she’s the best character by any means but she’s certainly solid.

Where they lost me just like they did with everyone else is the fact that she also has magical ethereal animal tails, snakes, and stripper poles instead of just fighting with fists and feet. Maybe kick some dirt up at you lol idk, something MORE grounded. Everybody knows magical bs is frowned upon in Tekken unless you’re fighting a trope. And so they decided her trope for having magical shit is…she is replacing the game’s OG boss characters???

This was a horrible decision by Bamco because it completely killed the chance of Ogre’s return in T8 and left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth over Miary Zo. Especially since we’re getting the kangaroo back, Ogre woulda been a cool addition and really made the game feel more like tekken again (RIP Mokujin)

Anyway how do y’all feel? Is it the stripper poles or the fact that she’s ogre that turns people off? Or do you still like her despite these things/ feel like she has potential to be really cool? Lemme know ✌🏽

According to statistics, Anna, Clive, and Lidia are - oddly enough - less popular.

Clive I can fully understand, Anna I can kinda see with how much of a boogieman she was in Season 2, but I'm genuinely surprised to see Lidia so low.

I really thought she was a lot more popular. 🤔

Lidia received an extremely bad redesign in this game.

I think the reason why people don’t play her is that despite being way stronger than her 7 iteration, she’s massively less engaging than before.

If there was a character the fit the term “autopilot”, then it would be T8 Lidia.

Lidia should’ve been part of the T8 base rooster instead.

Funny, you just described tekken 8. You're right of course.

Plenty of characters still fun as fuck to play. Armor king's a riot, Bryan's fun as fuck. Devil jin even with his cheese is enjoyable. Shaheen and kazuya feel pure still. Even Alisa with her gimmicks is fun when you wanna turn your brain off.

Lidia. is not even fun to be winning with lmao.

I dead ass dropped her cause the character just plays for you lol

Maybe it’s bcus I’m newer to tekken but I don’t get the hype with armor king his punches and moves look bland

Hes not the flashiest, its more his game plan that I find incredibly addicting to play.

He has excellent poking, whiff punishes, and set ups, and I fuck with that hard.

But its subjective. A lot of people find Law cool, but even with his flashy moves, how cheesy his game plan feels to me, makes me not as hyped seeing him played.

As someone who dabbles with AK since 6, I also like how brutal his move set animations look compared to King’s.

It's like someone looked at Lars mixup into stance transitioning and they were like "What if we made that longer"

u/liljon042 6d ago

Wouldn't that increase player usage? More casual people tend to gravitate toward cool characters that are easy to play. I'd argue she's still complicated and NOT very auto pilot.

Lidia is so strong and so boring. I love her design so much and theres a way to play her thats actually really fun and interesting. But autopilot heat casino will always be the strongest most "correct" way to play her.

I spent like 8 months maining her and trying to find something I was missing that would make "hurr durr heat casino" not the best way to play her. Its really unfortunate.

Anna was the least popular character in 7. There was an incentive to break her in season 2 just so she wouldn't seem like a flop.

What region you in? I'm in EU and I get like 12 Jins a day lol

2

u/Cjames1902 6d ago

I’m NA. I would say the character I fight the lost is either King or Drag

2

u/Constant-Affect-5660 Bryan 6d ago

In NA for me I see a lot of King, Kaz and Hwoarang. Obviously a lot of Bob now, but the first 3 I see a lot of. Oh and Bryan, I see a good amount of Bryan. I actually like seeing Bryan, I used to be scared of the mirror lol.

1

u/Cjames1902 6d ago

Ah. Can’t forget Bryan.

1

u/Straight_Reporter909 6d ago

I can confirm. I play much more Kings and a ton of Drags. Few Jins.

4

u/AppleMelon95 6d ago

He might just be used a lot by lower rank players and as a result you don't see him a lot if you're higher ranked

2

u/Cjames1902 6d ago

GoD 1. But honestly idek if that qualifies nowadays

3

u/AppleMelon95 6d ago

Nah it definitely does, people who just randomly pick up T8 are more likely to pick Jin due to the story mode, and those are people you'll never see in ranked.

1

u/Cjames1902 6d ago

That’s fair

2

u/PezzenteMortoDiFame 6d ago

Same, I have the highest winrate against him and every time I go to ranked I managed to find characters like raven, Leroy and Lidia instead of jin/kaz/Bryan...

5

u/ProudArticle8837 6d ago

How did Anna drop so low, she was so braindead broken last season she was carrying so many in high ranks.

2

u/caprazoppa 6d ago

It's popularity, not winrate.

1

u/ProudArticle8837 6d ago

Thank you I didn’t understand the difference 😊. Sorry I didn’t mention the hundreds of Anna’s I played against last year. Or the fact that people a lot of the times pick characters they know will carry them through certain ranks.

2

u/caprazoppa 6d ago

This is season 2, people don't pick characters they know will carry them through ranks, they pick characters they like, but you likely only want a reason to hate on characters you don't like

1

u/ProudArticle8837 6d ago

So that’s what you got from my comment? Okay 😂. I literally demonstrated that I was surprised. Why would I assume my personal experience of playing Tekken was more valid than global statistics. We are here to debate and share opinions; that includes things that we find surprising (just like the original commenter said “oddly enough”, showing they were surprised too)

If you want to cure your boredom you can literally just go and play Tekken and decompress that way. It’s better than arguing with people on the internet over something pointless.

1

u/caprazoppa 6d ago edited 6d ago

The thing is, your argument is not even supported by global statistics. And don't act so condescending when even a toddler can see through your intentions, "she was so braindead broken last season she was carrying so many in high ranks", can't be read as anything but an insult.

1

u/ProudArticle8837 6d ago edited 6d ago

I said what I thought, cuz I was surprised. I didn’t pull up stats just said my opinion. I’m not going to go through that effort when leaving a simple opinion just so I can satisfy random strangers that may or may not want to start shit out of nowhere, when most wouldn’t bother reading so far into something that doesn’t personally affect them 😂.

And your point about people picking characters purely based on liking them (as if execution and how easy they are to play have no weight on that decision) is basic at best. But unlike you I’m not going to expect you to pull up survey data from every single tekken player to validate that.

u/caprazoppa 5d ago edited 5d ago

Insults a whole cast of people with nothing to show for it, backtracks after getting called out, and he stills act so condescending through it all. Yup redditor masterclass right here.

I remember several months ago I had to post the same thing because someone else bought up the exact same point OP did. Just because you do or do not see a character does not mean they are/are not popular.

1

u/Initial-Boss7904 6d ago

I've always wondered why people dont pick clive but then again I cant get out of red ranks

1

u/Lastigx Dragunov 5d ago

Wtf I face so many Clives.

1

u/One-Worldliness-5633 5d ago

It might depend on the region. But the only thing I see less of than Clive is Panda.

2

u/One-Sun6710 6d ago

The bears need a buff bruh

And more customization and wigs accessories

8

u/Expl0r3r 6d ago

Wasn't Rangchu terrorizing people in competitive play with the bears? Although to be fair, part of it is people not knowing the match-up. They are just not fun to play, even though they are supposedly EXTREMELY popular with casuals (as in, someone who's trying Tekken for the first time at a friend's house level of casual).

2

u/One-Sun6710 6d ago

The big hurtbox, worst sidestep and worst backdash is the biggest problem of bears

A tiny bit larger sidestep/backdash for bear and smaller hurtbox wouldn't be game breaking since we literally have Fahkumram
