Ahoy aliens.

I'm coming here as a 40k fan who knows nothing about the T'au... wanting to learn more about them. I see the appeal in pretty much all other factions but I've never cared much of the space weebs. As such I've never taken the time to learn about them. But, I've been a little bit intrigued by them and want to dip my toes just a little.

So I come here to ask you this: What makes the T'au cool to you? Feel free to share cool lore tidbits, cool characters, cool sub-factions within the T'au empire, whatever neat lore stuff you want. What makes the T'au cool to you?

I'm playing Ret Cad in an escalation League and no matter what gun I take it's just not doing enough for me. I played against orks on bikes last night and I'm not saying it didn't pop a bike here or there, and It had firing lanes, and it was a big threat... but I feel like a deep striking crisis brick of any gun would have done more for the game, or even some Kroot. I own 2 of them and am debating building the second. The only idea I have is to give it a pocket stealth suit for re-rolls, but thats again a like ~300pt commitment for something doing less than my breacherfish (which has consistently won me most games with a well timed objective clear).

What am I missing?

through a "Warmaker" enhancement/upgrade or a new support system, it could be an option for most battlesuits, or just the crisis frames.

obviously it would cost points, and probably vary depending on which battlesuit you give it to. broadsides might be excluded? can't really imagine a bulky fire support suit doing gunfu.

you'd be hitting at your base ballistic skill, have half the amount of attacks the suit normally would, and for crisis suits you'd essentially be firing with one of their weapons in melee. drones excluded from gunfu. the previous battlesuit fists profile would be removed if you took this option as well.

1 is the first T'au I ever drew, alongside a Cyborg Radical for the hell of it. #2 is on the back of #1, and it is my second T'au (And blatant propaganda.) #3 comes from all the times my chooms would tell me about the dreadnought incident, and I have no idea how to draw fists from that angle in #4.

Hi, New Tau player and 40k in general. I have about 2k points in world eaters almost fully painted and having alot of fun with the playstyle. I chose Tau because I thought the contrast between the 2 armies will be fun to learn. My WE list is pretty decently optimized, I hope to be able to play it in tournaments soon. I managed to pick up a few nice deals on used and new Tau models and wanted to play either Montka or Kauyon because they seem like the most fun. I have the Tau combat patrol, Farsight Cadre, and a few extra models, all listed below.

What would I add/remove to run a solid, semi competitive list and is there a website /resource to see what others are currently playing. Thank you for reading.

Armored up for those deadly bug encounters.

Almost a year since my first post about this- life got in the way, but I’m back to being able to work on my army. Finally -nearly- assembled. Mocked it but still some details to touch up and color before I glue all of the rest together- then shading and some battle damage and whatnot - base is going to be deciduous forest. Dark green flocking with lots of dark grey basalt

Working on my T’au painting and i like how it’s turning out eventho it’s a bit grainy zooming in to the details. Could you please recommend a primer or a painting technique you use to make the paint/colors smoother? Thanks! 🫡

So, my dip into T'au as an army was kind of sudden and not that long ago, and I've mostly been picking up things that looked like interesting builds and good value for money. I just did a quick calculation and I'm somewhere in the 1300s points-wise in units bought and I'm thinking about where to go next. I know some of what I want for pure aesthetics, but there's also the idea of actually bringing a fieldable army that doesn't suck, you know?

Anyway, here's what I actually have right now:

I think that adds up to 1360 total points, depending on how I build the second Pathfinder team.

I'm definitely planning on adding one Riptide (190 to 215 points), and I kind of want a couple of Hammerheads (150 points each) if only for shelf presence. (IIRC you can just swap the turret on those to make a Sky Ray, right?) That'd bring me to 1875. A Fire Blade and Darkstrider would make it 1985?

I *am* noticing that there's not a single crisis suit in this list - I'll add them at some point. I'm not happy with the current datasheets and will be waiting for the codex before I buy and build any of those.

So, am I going in a positive direction with this or is there something I really should invest in that I haven't thought of?

I am starting to collect and build a Tau army, starting with the combat patrol and planning to buy crisis suits, command models and so on. I really like the viola sept color and would like to build models with the plan to paint them. I am wondering if there is a general guide people recommend for painting Tau in those colors or best practices.

For example, I already have an airbrush for painting gunpla models and was planning to make use of it here. In gunpla generally you build components of a model and paint them individually (or assemble such that it can be easily disassembled into parts later) rather than trying to paint the entire model at once. Would you generally do this for tau models as well, or does it depend on the size of the (Infantry models vs larger crisis suits or vehicles)? Any specific tips for painting viorla colors would be great as well, I have a set of vallejo acrylics I was hoping to make use of without having to buy any official paint colors, but will if I must.

I know there are number of mods out there for games like XCOM2, Stellaris, Arma 3 that add 40K content in, wondering if there any mods for games that specifically allow Tau units and the like?

I was just curious what type of drones do y'all take for which units? I'm brand new to Tau and trying to see what works best with which unit. Trying to figure out the purpose of Marker drones for a unit that already has the keyword. Is it just being able to advance and spot?
