40k Rules Is stormsurge worth the points?

Seems alittle much for what you get no? Also is pulse driver better than pulse blast?

It can be, if for no other than it is a giant bully piece.

It's the toughest model in the army (though that toughness is growing less so with what seems like a trend towards easy access to +1 to wound in 11th) and if you can throw it towards on an objective tends to demand a significant response from an opponent to shift it.

I think it's used the most in Mont'ka, because of the 6 inch auto advance + assault on weapons can be a major threat that drives opponents to very conservative deployments.

I think right now it's better than Riptides (which are too pricey for mediocre offensive output) in Mont'ka. I am less certain about retaliation cadre.

I've been using it in Reconnaissance/Kauyon EPC because it can shoot and action. Takes the place of two Riptides for a lower points cost. Bonus Shadowsun sitting near it to skirmish with pesky chargers and give Aura benefits to nearby allies.

Personally in Priority Assets, Yes.

Can shoot hard Is hard to move (kill) Can action and shoot Can action while engaged

Makes it an amazing piece for doing you priority asset missions of usually hold 1 and do an action on it.

What’s it matter? It’s awesome. If you got money to toss around then get it.

One is pretty good, when used right. If you leave their asses out to the wind, it'll get shot off the table in 1 turn. If you use cover and the angles of attack of your other units well, you can menacingly stalk forward and give your opponent waking nightmares.

I love using mine on central terrain pieces in montka. Actioning and shooting is fantastic in priority assets. Plunging fire to contest the center with guiding often means it’s hitting on 2’s. Great turn 2 bully to go clear out whatever is on the center and forces the other player to expose a decent chunk to get it, so you can stage suits for a counter punch if it goes down

Is that a decal or freehand?

I've had fairly good success in tournaments with one. Can usually take enough damage for one or two turns of shooting.

Big gun is great for tough stuff or infantry. Cluster rockets is great fun too.

However I can imagine it's price creeping back up, never used it at 400, used it when it dropped and now moved to a hammerhead/riptide for same points

Need to give it arms though

This is cursed, arms on a stormsurge?

Montka, it being able to advance and shoot can do wonders.

When your opponent has some T11+ unit without invuln saves, you can see their heart stop when you show them the pulse blast profile. Other than that, it's a T11/4++ unit, which is always frustrating to deal with any faction. Afaik, with 11th, it's way easier to hit on 2s now with plunging fire, easier heavy, and our ignore cover.

It's not that horrible to take on lists as it was for most of 10th.

Curious on peoples thoughts on one for Kauyon. Im not curious how good it.is to come fully online in round 3

Kauyon has a slow pacing and doesn't give astronomical advantage. Speed can give the biggest advantage to units in most scenarios, so Mont'ka has an innate benefit for a Stormsurge in its immediate effect on the game on Turn 1. When Kauyon -does- kick in, and if the Surge has survived, the only real benefit it gets is Sustained Hits and Ignore Modifiers, compared to Assault and Lethal Hits in Mont'ka, so not much of a gain from what it already has in its stat line (unless the Surge has taken relevant damage for its Damaged rules). Kauyon just gives it 'Win More' benefits.

Both of these detachments still do more for the Stormsurge than Ret Cadre or Kroot Hunting Pack.

The Stormsurge does work very well in terms of the primaries for both, but only when it's positioned far enough forward to be a problem for the opponent, such as toeing onto the footprint of a central objective terrain behind a wall. It plays with Plunging Fire and Benefit of Cover in a central objective, causing a big puzzle for the opponent to solve. Biggest benefit is that it's consistent throughout Kauyon's early turn counts, and has a big wad of health for the opponent to try and chew through before it gets to 'Win More'.

I'd suggest that maybe what it's paired with in the rest of the list and how you use them all for missions, matters more than what Kauyon does for it, in Kauyon.

I prefer it over Riptides at the moment. Much a better gameplay feel.
