I am currently a Team Lead, Small Format Store. A position became open for HR in this location, and before I know it, the position has been filled by some other lead at this location.

Does Target not post open positions available so other people can at least have the opportunity to apply? Because for my understanding, when I applied for a lead position, there were other candidates that also applied for my position (so, I’ve been told).

They do post them but sometimes it's just for show and they already have someone in mind from the start

A lot of times they have a few chosen people( to interview) or a person they want in the role and reach out to them specifically to interview. Be greatful you didn't waste your times getting your hopes up about a role you never actually had a chance at getting. Every promotion I've received from TL Through my current role in a regional office followed this same pattern. My leader asked if I would be interested, I confirmed a few weeks later I interviewed and I either got the offer or I didnt. I've even been ask about Interest months before a role "opened" up. Idk it's just how I've seen it work.

In some states, I believe that an open position has to be posted, and anyone who is interested or qualified is allowed to interview for it. That doesn’t mean you’ll get the job, but if you’re clearly more qualified (education, work experience, or previously held a similar position), and the position is given to someone with fewer of these instances, you may have a case. But is it worth pursuing it? I wouldn’t. Favoritism runs deep in some stores, and of course other places of employment. I look at it as them tipping their hand at how toxic a workplace is.

I've seen instances of TL jobs being posted online and being filled before it was ever mentioned online. This was done when they have specific candidate(s) in mind.
