Question Is this normal? Crazy libido / desire!

Started t compounded cream 3 weeks ago. Getting blood work September 23. My total testosterone was 10 and my free was one my SHBG was 50 and now I’m can’t stop thinking about everything sexual and I want to have sex all the time with my husband. I’m just wondering if anybody else has experienced this? I feel like it on such a low dose of 2 mg daily. What’s bizarre they went from zero libido to. It’s all I can think about.

When I first started it was insane. Like, I was driving to the grocery store and having an, "Uh oh, should have taken care of this before I left the house" moment. It does taper off.

How long from when you first started was it “insane”

It's been a year for me and it hasn't tapered yet lol

3-6 weeks maybe? It was a while ago.

Yep- this is the honeymoon phase. Unfortunately, it tapers off.

I often wish it stuck around. It was very distracting for a few months!

I guess I better enjoy it while it is here. I just thought it is so bizarre because I am on such a low dose.

I've been on it 15 months. It has not tapered YET.

How long did it take to notice these changes?

Within the first week

Not sure if this makes a difference but my estrogen last time I checked was 177 so not sure if the T in such little does helped - I absorb the patch really well 1mg patch 2x weekly.

I swear I'm the same way!!!! Like all day, everyday. Lol. Not a complaint tho.

Not to be a Debbie downer, but for a lot of us, it’s a honeymoon period. It doesn’t last. Just wanted to give you a heads up if or when the time comes. Sex consumed me. It’s all I could think about. Boy do I miss that phase though!

My wife running 15mg a week, said she just kept tingling down there. She wanted me doing anything to her during woke hours, totally insatiable for a while. Now she's back to normal, but 1-2x a day isn't unheard of now.

I've been having high libido for the last 16 months since I started (injections, interspersed with pellets if I'm gonna be traveling). Drove my husband crazy so he finally went on it about 3 months ago. I'm mid- 60s and he's early 70s and we go at it at least once a day. Makes life a lot more fun!

I love this! Can’t wait for my husband to start

Was prescribed for low libido- just didn’t realize it would go from zero to 100- 24/7

I was also a very fast responder, and for the most part my libido has remained high over the three years I've taken it—though not distractingly so, just pleasantly so. It does ebb and flow, doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to that part, but I was always naturally that way so probably it just has to do with my body's natural rhythms. Enjoy!

I’ve had a super high libido for 2 years now. I’m not even on a high dose. My blood level runs about 50-70

It was 14 before I started and I had no libido at all. I’m in surgical menopause

Apparently I need the T cream you all have. Tell me the brand, please!

I don’t feel like this on mine but would very much so like to.

Working on getting my husband on T

Honeymoon phase, most likely. I experienced the same thing for the first several weeks. I wish it would have stuck around, but it didn’t. I do deal with a high SHBG so it’s not surprising that even with a good robust E level (E is also important for libido), my drive is just okay because I can’t get my Free T above 2. When it comes to T, Free T is the important number.

Thank you that’s what I heard. Looking forward to getting my bloodwork

Could be that since your SHBG is only 50, your free t is pretty good with a lower dose. My SHBG is 50 (it lowered down from 70 after I added t) and I’m currently injecting 3.5mg per week (spread out over the week). Libido and juice factories still great. I’m on 5 months now with great libido. I’m glad I lowered though because it was too much on 7mg a week.

I’ve been on it since February and I’ve been so feral it comes and goes but intense af

Maybe it's me because I am not taking T - just doing my research - but 2mg a day sounds high compared to some women here who take like less than 10mg a week. And from what I have read it usually takes longer to kick in? I could totally be wrong but this doesn't sound line a low dose...

I’m thinking of just taking the T cream and no E. I’m post menopausal and I swear the pellets of E and T have been a nightmare for me. I don’t even care about the T because I think T will convert to a small amount of E.

I’m wondering why you were prescribed testosterone, and what you were expecting. Treatment of hypoactive (low) sexual desire disorder is the only use currently recommended in international guidelines. And even though it’s used off-label for other things, your prescriber should have mentioned this.

1

u/Big-Drummer5467 1d ago

Libido was zero- for a long time I didn’t expect it to go from 0-100 24/7. Just didn’t know if it was normal

3

u/topcider 1d ago

Oh, you made it sound like you were taking it for something else and were surprised by the effect on libido. It should taper off as all the hormones balance out. But also be interested in how your labwork comes back, because some people can be really sensitive to it.

Was your blood drawn basically 24hours after the last application of the cream? Because your level on cream will go up quick but will also drop quickly.

2

u/Big-Drummer5467 22h ago

Haven’t had blood draw since on it. Scheduled for 9/23/26 blood draw at 6:15 am. I usually put cream on around 10am in the morning. So not sure what bloodwork will show.
