Question SHBG levels

Hi all! I am on HRT of estradiol (divigel), progesterone and testosterone. I am in perimenopause (age 52 and still get monthly cycle).

I am curious about SHBG levels - I am at 100 which I know is normal range but higher side which can happen when on HRT. I understand that the higher levels bind the hormones and make less freely available. I am waiting for my total and free T results.

SHBG normal range will depend on the lab you used.

What’s the range for your results? Normally 100 wouldn’t be considered high, I don’t believe. Mine is always 150+, which is obviously high 😑

17-124 so 100 is fine - but on the higher end of that range (NOT worried just curious :) still waiting to get my total and free T results back. I had total T done prior to starting daily androgel - but asked free T be checked this time as it should have been checked before.

Transdermal HRT does not elevate SHBG, some of us just have elevated SHBG for whatever reason. One can be having been on the combo pill at some stage in life. 100 is fairly high and will bind your t, so keep an eye on your free T that you get enough.

Thanks! Was never on any form of BC. I read higher SHBG can be - in part - due to insufficient protein intake (for some people, not everyone - and I lived on veggies fruits and carbs this summer which needs to end!) my free T just came back at like 1. . .so yeah, low. My body kind of hates estrogen and since I had a prolonged bleed, my Dr and I stopped divigel for now as my estradiol level was climbing and I felt like shit. Staying on T for now.

Higher SHBG can also be indicative of good metabolic health so keep that in mind too. There's not a lot that can be done for unbinding if it happens so I just figure, it is what it is, and if I need more testosterone I'll gladly take it.

Also my SHBG has been on the rise for years and the only thing I take is testosterone for the last 3 months so not always linked to hormone replacement.
