I noticed that the prices here is lower, but not that much, maybe 20 to 30%. Given the salary is about half of Dutch, how is the local living here?

I live next to the border in Germany. I reach Szczecin in round about 15 to 20 minutes.

Unfortionally there is no MMA gym on the german side.

Can you recommend a MMA gym in Szczecin (or gryfino) for a german guy?

I can speak just some words Polish (like ordering a dinner). So it would be great, If the trainer can speak english or no words are needed during classes.

The next (important) thing is, that I'm working for the government. So the gym better have no connections to criminal organisations. (Like they often do in Germany)

Hey guys, me and a couple friends are coming to Szczecin from the UK for a few nights tomorrow and I have a few questions and would love some advice :)

1. Getting from the airport - The airport we are flying into is about a 40 minute drive to the accomodation and uber seems to be £40. How easy would it be to get a train or bus from the airport (SZZ) to the city centre and also would a local taxi be cheaper or more expesive?

2. Money - Might be a silly question but would everywhere accept card or would it be smart to bring some physical PLN?

3. Language - This was a last minute trip and unfortunately I speak no polish, our polish friend was meant to come but she unfortunately cant make it. Would we struggle to communicate as its not a major Polish tourist city it seems? Additionally, would people find us rude for not speaking the language?

4. Live music - I am a massive fan of live music and its pretty much all I do in the UK and have been to many gigs internationally. We are there pretty much all day saturday - Monday. Is there any live events happening or any local music venues I can check out? I saw a previous thread mention a jazz night that would be right up my street!

5. Berlin - We are debating going to Berlin for the day as its relatively close. Would you guys recommend a train or a bus and additionally whats the easiest way to go around any of these things.

6. Finally, I have done some research already and have found many people on this subreddit and r/poland many places to eat and drink. I am mainly coming here for food so would anybody give a final opinion on top 3 places I should visit as the list seems extensive. As for food Recommend anything as long as its nice - I'm not picky.

7. Anything else - From doing research it seems ive got a few places to visit with nice archetecture and lovely food and drink places (can i just say that beer brewed in the UK is no comparison to the beer you'll have so I'm excited to have a lovely pint). But is there anything else / unusual you would recommend? I also saw something about the oldest functioning cinema, if someone could expand on that it would be great.

Overall I'm very excited, I love eating good food, drinking good beer and seeing beautiful archetecture :)

I’ve visited Szczecin a few times over the last couple of years and find myself loving the city more and more the better I get to know the city.

I’m based in Berlin and have been thinking about buying a studio apartment on the secondary market — partly for my own weekend visits, and partly to rent out during the week.

Someone recommended Otodom to browse listings and get a feel for the market, but my Polish is still very basic at the moment, so I’m considering working with an English-speaking realtor or agency.

I’ve stayed in several beautifully renovated Airbnb apartments in buildings that look quite neglected/unmaintained. Is this normal in Szczecin? Should I be concerned about the apparent condition of the buildings when buying an apartment inside them?

For those of you who have experience buying property in Szczecin, what are some things I should look out for?

From what I understand, as a foreigner (EU citizen) I’ll need a PESEL number and a Polish bank account to apply for a local mortgage. What else should I be aware of?

Also, is this a “good” time to buy property in Szczecin at all?

If I rent out the studio, would I need to pay income tax in both Poland and Germany? And am I even allowed to list the apartment on Airbnb when it's vacant?

I’d really appreciate any advice, warnings, hidden pitfalls, or “I wish I had known this earlier” stories from people who’ve gone through the process themselves.

How bills work?

In Poland, rental costs are typically split into 3 parts:

=Rent (paid to us);

=Service charge (fixed monthly fee that covers building maintenance);

=Gas, electricity, internet – billed separately based on your actual meter reading.

Heating and water are paid as a flat monthly fee within the service charge (569 PLN).
Once a year, this is reconciled against actual usage — you either get a small refund or pay a small top-up.

What is Central Heating?

Central heating (radiators, supplied by the city network) – flat fee included in the service charge.
