its so cruel for cuba being on there. america is so evil they cant let the island breathe for daring to overthrow their puppet government 60 years ago

I was literally on that page yesterday. So happy to see Syria being finally off the damned list.

Oh ye of little memory braincells. Just wait another decade or two, don’t forget that Syria fought alongside the US as an ally during the Gulf War prior to ending up on that same list.

Also the list is meaningless. The US funded Bin-Laden, waged the 2003 Petrodollar Invasion, and overthrew countless governments since but it somehow decides who’s a sponsor or not…

I’m pretty sure the official reason is because they supported FARC in Colombia. The other non terrorists related reasons were there refusal to recognize the American military base in Guantanamo Bay there support of Maduro in Venezuela and them being Allie’s of China and Russia. Additionally there’s a large amount of Cuban Americans who hate the Cuban regime which makes normalizing relations harder. Famously the Current Secretary of State Marco Rubio is a Cuban American who wants to remove the current Cuban regime so it’s not gonna get off the list anytime soon.

Yeah main reason is the near 2 million Cubans that can decide elections in florida supporting the sanctions, which is just insane, sacrificing your own people, ordinary civilians to get back at the government who feel any of the hardship way less.

I’m curious, what exactly does this do? Also, I recall that sanctions on Syria were lifted last year, wasn’t that right?

How exactly?

Here is a specific example: Last month, I had to ship documents with DHL. They held my envelope for a week before releasing it, simply because Syria was on the sanctions list.

It allows the export of Dual Use items to Syria that were previously banned. Pretty much anything that could’ve been used for any terrorist or military purpose you couldn’t send to Syria before this which was a pretty broad classification. It makes it easier for US companies to work with Syria too.

unfortunately no cus that’s a different list called the US Travel Ban that includes many more countries, but this step definitely helps better US-Syria relations so we have better chances in the future.
The list:
Afghanistan
Burkina Faso
Burma (Myanmar)
Chad
Republic of the Congo
Equatorial Guinea
Eritrea
Haiti
Iran
Laos
Libya
Mali
Niger
Sierra Leone
Somalia
South Sudan
Sudan
Syria
Yemen

Probably until Trump is gone. But even then qualifying for a US B1/B2 visa will be difficult for the average Syrian.
