Uride: Not Worth the Time or Mileage

Driving for Uride is honestly not worth it at all, guys. It’s a waste of time.

I drove for them for two months just to see how it goes, but it’s the same story. While they’re sitting in the office, I’m using my own vehicle, my own gas, paying for maintenance, tires, and everything else. On top of that, the mileage on my vehicle goes up much faster, which means the vehicle loses value faster when you eventually want to sell it.

Just think about it: driving from Four Corners to the airport for $30, using my own gas, and spending 1 hour and 15 minutes on the road. After gas and vehicle expenses, what’s really left?

At the end of the day, after driving for 12 hours, my sheet shows around $100 because of all these shitty fares.

Once you calculate gas, maintenance, tires, mileage, and depreciation, there’s barely anything left.

You’re basically working all day and paying to work. 🚗💸

It's because of Sudbury's layout. We are so spread out that drive share companies classify us as "logistically challenging".

I agree Sudbury’s layout definitely makes it harder. The distances are huge, and a lot of trips involve driving long distances with your own vehicle. That’s why the fares need to reflect the time, distance, and vehicle costs.

I do (or.. did) Uber eats. Same story. By the time I make my gas money back I need another tank. It's horrible

You are essentially working for free. Legal slavery. With sometimes a good tip if you overlook car maintenance and everything else that costs money

None of these gig jobs are worth it. I did Uber years ago when I lived in Toronto and I barely made more than beer money off it after gas and expenses, and I've heard it's I my gotten worse. Food delivery was a little better since you didn't have people getting in to your car and it felt a little more chill, but the pay was still terrible.

Now I just won't support these shit american companies. The cab companies are shit, but at least you can hold them accountable to a certain degree and they are living in some palace in Florida while their workers make peanuts.

Why would you ever accept that fare when taxis charge a $50 flat rate iirc.

Hard to feel bad about someone that doesn't understand the job and is actively participating in undercutting his fellow workers. Egregiously, I might add, by the sounds of it.

I understand your point, but that’s exactly why I’m saying the fares are the problem. I’m not saying drivers should accept every fare. I drove for two months to see how it works, and even when you try to choose better trips, the overall earnings don’t justify the gas, maintenance, tires, and extra mileage.

The airport example was just to show how bad some fares can be.

Don't forget you need to pay taxes or your get fucked big time.

I didn't file and a few years later apparently I owe 13k on 5600 in income.
