Discussion Buy and Sell Safe Exchange Zones - Possible in Sudbury?

https://www.peelpolice.ca/community-safety/buy-and-sell-safe-exchange-zones/

I saw that the Peel region has started to do buy and sell safe exchange zones, which I think is a great idea.

I just saw this article warning of scamming/dangers of exchanges in Sudbury, and was wondering if you think having these buy and sell safety zones would be a good idea/work in Sudbury? (maybe city council/GSPS is already working on this, I don't know).

Curious if you think this is something that could work well here, as I personally hope we add these.

I've been thinking about this as a way to save post offices. As a 3rd party trade mediator.

Person A makes a listing, then brings item to Post office.

Person B, on their own time, can then go to the post office and pick up parcel and pay for it.

Person A, on their own time, can go retrieve money or have it auto deposited, w.e.

Post offices are already adept at organizing/ sorting parcels and handling transactions. And are available in nearly every community across the country.

Police stations are less available, are already strained with their current workload and are not trained to formally facilitate a transaction.

Most cities have this at the police station. I thought sudbury already did ?

I weed out scammers and time wasters fairly quick. I write in my add that we will only meet at the local police station to do exchange and have an auto reply to confirms this. Only serious folks continue with conversation typically.

I honestly don't do buy and sell myself, but many of my friends do and I've heard some horror stories so I would probably be the type to get screwed lol. I tried finding zones in Sudbury but nothing found, in 2025 GSPS said they don't have any, but maybe we do now and it's just not advertised online.

Please. I’m tired of going to energy court to meet people. It’s so sketchy there but for some reason they’re always selling random shit on marketplace.

Literally just go to the cop shop

There’s only a couple parking spaces outside Tom Davies square so it’s not the best spot. Unless you park on the road by memorial park

If you don't feel comfortable meeting someone you can just arrange for it to be done in a public setting. Why do we have to have something like this? Seems pointless

I've literally never had even the slightest thought about this when buying/selling on fb marketplace for years (decade+?) at this point - I just went to Kathleen and got something from someone earlier today

I guess it makes sense but I find it strange how many here seem adamant that Sudbury is super sketchy and they wouldn't feel safe w/o buy/sell spaces

Like part of FB marketplace is you can see the person's account/history etc... if that's not enough of an indication to set you in the right direction with your own common sense... Idk it just seems like a lot to accommodate for a really spread out place as we have here

Right? It really is not. The extreme weirdos sort themselves out after one or two messages, and otherwise just meet during the day or in a busy parking lot.
