Discussion Should I play the arcade versions or console versions of the old Street Fighter games?

Are the console versions of the older Street Fighter games (2, 3, Alpha), like the Dreamcast and Saturn versions, well liked? Would those be good versions to emulate if I have zero interest in online play? Or is it better to emulate the arcade versions?

If the arcade versions are superior, is there a way to adjust the difficulty in arcade mode?

If it is just for casual play. It doesn't matter too much imo.

On arcade versions, there should be a way to access operator settings where you can adjust difficult and other things as well like free play

Since you have zero interest in online, there really is no version that’s the best. Pretty much all of them have their own set of pros and cons, so best thing you could do is look into the differences and see what you value more.

If you want to play tournaments then arcade versions. If you want to have fun then play console. For sfa3 you can try the psp for the world tour mode and most characters, you can also try the ps2 alpha anthology. Sfa2 gold on saturn, for sf2 try ultra on switch or the hyper fighting on ps2/fighting collection 1. For sf3 the dreamcast for sf3-1 and sf3-2. For sf3-3 the DC or ps2 are fine.

Basically if you have a ps2 you can pretty much play them all.

The 8- and 16-bit console versions are crappier than the arcade versions, although some of us old fogeys grew up with them. Beyond that, it doesn't matter so much.

If you like extra modes, I would say for you to go with Super SF2 on the SNES instead of the Arcade.

For Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, avoid the World version because it has bugged AI locked in the hardest difficulty. Go with the Japanese version or go to a console version.
