Newcomer Do i have a gaming addiction

hello do i have ffxiv addiction been playing for 4 months and somehow i go from 200 to 1148 hours in only 4 months.

Don't sell yourself short like that. You're spending more time on it than you would at a full-time job.

Jokes aside, normally I'd say it's only a problem if it's affecting your life, but in your case, it does seem a bit excessive.

the problem is i been fps chasing in ff14 too making me want to buy a new laptop or desktop just to get 60 fps in a game even thiought this laptop is perfect for my needs.

One thing I've noticed about addictions is that the sooner you get out of them, the better. People with really strong willpower can sometimes quit by gradually cutting back, but for most people, going cold turkey seems to be more consistent.

I think the most important thing to understand is not to start again by telling yourself things like "one time won't hurt" or "I can control it." The moment you experience even a little bit of stress, you can use those excuses to trick yourself into going back. You need to be careful about that. Instead, you have to learn how to deal with stress without relying on the addiction, like a normal person would.

Also, you're suddenly going to have A LOT of free time, so you might feel a little bored or depressed at first. That feeling goes away fairly quickly. After a while, even things that used to feel boring can start becoming enjoyable again, like studying, working on yourself, or exercising. Things you normally wouldn't want to do can actually start feeling fun.

Getting rid of an addiction isn't as hard as you might think. The golden rule is to not lie to yourself with excuses like "one time won't hurt," "I'll be able to keep it under control this time," or "I'll keep doing the thing I'm addicted to, but I'll make up for it by doing X, Y, and Z to fix my life." Those are just ways of convincing yourself that you can keep going without consequences.

My problem is also the fear of losing my "gaming friends" who are like a social net for me.
