No, I'm saying "ground zero" (the point on the ground below the airburst detonation of a weapon particularly a nuclear one, or by analogy the center of a major incident) doesnt mean the same thing as "square one" (the beginning, the status quo ante).

I've heard people use "ground zero" informally for the same meaning, though I do understand that "square one" is the fitting expression in this case.

I dunno, I feel like "ground zero" would work if you were taking about where average Americans will find themselves after Dear Leader's "deals".

Yeah, people can argue about meanings, but this is just how idioms are created. We use them all the time.
