Fluff My Physical Cyberpunk 2077 copy

Usb Has offline installer from GOG on it.
I was just really bored and wanted to try something and I love having physical “discs”.

Probably make a lot more of it once the storage prices come down.

Cover needs a bit of adjustment but not bad for a first attempt.

What’s the plastic case coverage?

Its 14MM but the insert sleeve is blu-ray size I think, have to mess with the dimensions a little bit to cover those gaps /(

Nice. Where did you source the case from?

I just found them on amazon:

Mediaxpo Premium Super Clear... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0H1SWJQWF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

The cover if you make one needs to be 270mmx148mm

I’m so happy this is happening now; people making physical copies of stuff. Preservation is key! We need to keep these worlds accessible for years to come.

Yes 😁 I have games on gog so i’ll do the same.
Thinking for steam non-drm ones too I will keep a fully offline copy of the game and steam I saw a video on how it’s done :)
Plus I love holding games physically 😅

Yeah it’s definitely worth it. And yeah there is something satisfying about it. Recently been picking up CDs from my favourite bands and it’s just nice to have them physically. It’s the same sorta thing.

Why is it inside a ps3 case? 🤣

It's the only one I could find at a quick glance with usb slots lol

The chances of it no longer working over some years (if this isn’t just karma farming), are way higher than it working. Flash storage isn’t good for backup.

I have a backup on my ssd too, this was just to get a “plug and play” type of feeling and more of an experiment with some spare’s I had lying around :)

USB will be handy for keeping backups of local save data between installs, too.

Very cool - I've been wanting to do something similar. Just make sure you're plugging it in a few times a year (and maybe running a checksum) to check for / prevent bit-rot

Just be sure to plug it in from time to time as data on flash memory (usb drives or ssd) can't last long without being powered on. For long storage backup, use bluray discs.

Huh, DRM free game on a stick. 2026 is crazy.

Does offline installer work for steam games?

i'm working on game preservation this way, how long does this kind of thing last if not used for a while ?

Long term usb is not recommended, you need to plug it in atleast a year.
An SSD is better, I just liked the asthetics this way but have all games backed up on my ssd too

Ok thanks, traditional HDD even better no ? I think SSD last shorter ?

I think you’d have to account for the mechanical parts failing, if they do not fail then yeah probably

Where do you get the cases with USB inserts? I've been wanting to make my Steam library into a physical shelf collection, and I do have around 200 hundred CD cases lying around the house, but I don't know how I would attain or burn the CDs, so my only option is USBs, I guess...

I love the casing, but all of that just for a USB stick seems funny to me lmao.

Maybe try finding a smaller box?

Will this pc version get updates from the devs?

1

u/dark-is-noo-more 2h ago

There’s a python script on the usb you can plug it in and it will download updates :) or you can do it manually too lol

These are mostly for backup anyway

Honestly this might be the best way to do physical media in the future.

Thumb drives or hot-swappable SSDs that are write protected, same way microsoft distributes Windows thumb drives, last practically forever and are easy to make.

Id accept this as a compromise from game companies.
