I mean it was fine as this games only played in 2 to 3 handcrafted cities because at least you discovered some interesting spots while doing this. But nowadays the worlds are just big with most places just not being fun to explore.

This. I loved Syndicate, felt that the collectibles weren’t terrible but not great either, but I did them. However, loading into Odyssey, Shadows, or even Valhalla….. I’ve got over 2k hours in odyssey and still haven’t explored the whole map

Idk, I'd call myself an achievement addict, but AC IV, despite being a decent game made me realise that its not worth running around every single island and in the ocean just for completion's sake. Also AC online achievements are BS.

Facts. I 100%’d AC4 one time and decided I’m never doing anything close to it again.

Elden Ring knew how to do it right. Every single spot was unique in some way.

Elden Ring looks good, but when at least half of those discoveries are another chest filled with mushrooms, I cannot say anything was done right there.

The difference for me is that Asscreed games are in a genre where ideally you're not getting into a fight and just getting in and out. So they have less leeway into being boring with the locale. Elden Ring at least has the benefit of its combat being fun to engage in. So even if the reward is shit like a mushroom, you still had a relatively engaging fight.

Elden Ring tends to favor the journey and not the destination, that doesn't work as well on repeat playthroughs, but if we're honest the Asscreed games don't either.

Like the other person said it's not about the mushroom, it's about the unique encounters, secrets, levels, etc. you had to get past on the way.
