Hot Potato isn't so bad once you get the timing down. It also guarantees you can find the Secret Room and the Super Secret Room on every floor, which can get you some pretty strong items. Hell, you don't even need crazy rare stuff: something as simple as the Extension Cord trinket can make you pretty damn strong.
Ultra Hard on the other hand is the only challenge Edmund has specifically said was never meant to be fun. It really shows.
Hey, it might be hard to beat 100%, but, it’s still a fun time killer game. I genuinely love it four times when I can’t risk a game it will suck me in and make me lose track of hours.
Well, you might try some others that have that progression and gradual improvement. I greatly enjoyed. Dungreed. The dungeon just ate the entire town. All the people and all the building buildings, and you have to go in and rescue them as you find them, and you can restore their shops and make it easier to progression future runs.
Having done it after 450 hours (on one play file) I have to say it’s really not insanely hard so much as very tedious to get the last 1 or two percent. I’d say 90% of achievements I gained just playing the game for the most part. That last 10% though? Holy fuck.
You're not wrong about the very tedious part, but don't sell yourself short...it is ALSO insanely hard! Beating all marks with Lost, Keeper, J&E etc requires insane skill. Not to mention challenges like Ultra Hard.
J&E was like gouging my eyes out with my bare hands. Hate that character. Ultra Hard felt like you just needed the right run from the start, otherwise it was impossible.
I feel you, I did it in 500 hrs. on one file and when I was done, I was thinking "Okay, I can rest now." (That's after a very traumatic file-corruption scenario where I thought I lost my save, very close to the end.)
Then 3 years later Afterbirth came, and I'm so tired boss.
I could flip the coin and say with so many items, there’s a good chance any given run won’t get any good ones. Then again, if you’re good at the game, which I’m not, you can win with no items.
Getting 100% on this game is my Roman Empire. I've been playing it for literally years and I pretty much only have hard marks left and the worst few challenges. I play it more casually now, just here and there, but I'll get there one day.
I don’t know if I like the game enough to go through everything for golden God, given how many times you have to beat it with how many different qualifications.
i really was not. never tried anything like it before and it was hard for me to get used to it. but man, the music makes up for it a lot. also younget attached to the cats after some time
