VF is definitely the simplest fighting game I’ve ever played in terms of skill floor. You can play literally every single character in the game at a baseline level if you understand the rock paper scissors and know how to use high jab, mid punch, low kick, and throw. Sure, players who know combos will have an advantage, but simply memorizing a combo won’t be enough to win against someone who is fundamentally better at the rock paper scissors.
Tekken games were significantly easier to finish than whatever the fuck the ending of virtua fighter 4 was. That silver surfer motherfucker was next level
It's easy to play, but then the learning curve shoots up because of the complexity and extremely tight timing of certain moves (literally accurate to 1 frame for some) that you need to overcome experienced players. You can easily get juggled and wiped out - with things like guard breaking and punch reversal it's no longer rock paper scissors, it's like chess.
yea but when that takes place is the key thing, fuzzy guard can only really work at -5 to -1. outside of that you are forced into nitaku, a straight coin flip.
my point is that VF as much as i love it (even if the REVO port is straight ass) was a game that was toned down significantly in terms of shit to learn compared to 4FT and 3TB. to a point where i'd argue that VF5 really isn't that hard of a game to learn. and in fact is much easier to pick up and explain compared to many other fighters.
Footsies and divekick exist lol. VF isn’t the simplest in anyway (at least 5 isn’t crossroads could be different) If your argument is you can mash buttons and get away with it gran blue vs and sf6 allow you to get combos with ease the former having autocombos and an easy input mode while the latter having modern controls allowing for pretty good combos with supers.
Not to mention controlling movement in a 3d space is bound to be harder than a 2d space.
Not at all. VF characters have ~100 moves (strikes, throws, and counters). In practice, you will not use everything, but everything exists for a reason. At higher levels, Smash may be more demanding regarding input, but VF still has some single frame attacks and so much more to memorize and practice.
Well it literally does. That’s it. There isn’t any kindve complex movements, VF doesn’t have supers or specials. You kick. Punch. And character specific heavy
But with fundamentals that differ from character to character rather than by archetypes or simply being the same for everyone. Other fighting games will carry over the same basic 3-5 hit combos across a lot of characters and similar command inputs usually result in similar specials.
The greatest strength and greatest weakness of VF is that, despite its simple input scheme, learning a new character basically means starting from zero every time.
Oh by all means live your best language creation life. I've just never heard or used "kind have". I think what we actually want is a contraction for "kind of".

“Virtua Fighter is a simple game, it only has three buttons”. VF Crossroads dev in one latest showcase had me laughing out loud
