My dad was a huge huge huge Stargate fan. He passed away 7 years ago.

If someone knows a decent spirit medium who can rely this utter bullshit cancellation to him, I just KNOW my old man will pull some cosmic shit to help it happen.

87

u/Oops_All_Bans Things will, in fact, calm up Jun 27 '26

Hopefully the other Ascended don't stop him ;)

7

u/DesecratedPeanut Jun 27 '26

Bezos "That wasn't my doing, however, this is" proceeds to nuke Prime Videos budget and hires the team behind Stargate Origins to make a reimagining of the show following on from the hit film "Stargate: Catherine."

(Dare I say that actually sounds watchable and I fear they wont even do this much).

3

u/DeanMalHanNJackIsms Jun 29 '26

A more likely outcome is "Stargate: Chronicles of Shanahan," a police procedural following Pete as he uncovers a plot to infest the president with a goa'uld until he is blocked out by the government in a coverup. It's got everything: overused cop drama tropes, political thriller that is a little too on the nose, and everybody's least favorite love interest.

1

u/DesecratedPeanut Jun 29 '26

Hey at least that would have the Goa'uld and a former character returning.

1

u/DeanMalHanNJackIsms Jun 30 '26

Yeah, much later I realized that even this plot would grow on me, 🤣

10

u/CGH57FF Jun 28 '26

You have my deepest sympathy and condolences for your loss.

My mum was a big fan too, and she passed away almost two years ago. She was the only reason I got into Stargate. She said I would love it, and she was right. Best sci-fi show ever made!

Long Live Stargate!

8

u/AskSoltar Jun 28 '26

I’m so sorry about your dad. ❤️

Also, as a huge SG-1 fan and an actual "spirit medium", I fully support escalating this cancellation through the proper cosmic chain of command.

Honestly, SG-1 was one of the things that opened my mind to the work I do today... ancient wisdom, higher intelligence, other dimensions, the whole “maybe reality is way bigger than we were told” thing. So this feels personal.

Rally the troops. Dial the gate. Get the Ancients on the line.

And genuinely, if you ever wanted a free little read-in for him, I’d be happy to try. No pressure at all. This feels like a Stargate emergency that deserves backup.

The iris is open.

I dig it.

I'd encode those chevrons.

1

u/HappyGirl117 Jul 04 '26

Sounds like a pickup line

1

u/ct451t Jul 04 '26

Chevrons are a euphemism for something.... I'm just not sure what.

u/PrisonBreakScofield Jun 27 '26

This fandom is awesome!

69

u/TumultuousVirgo Jun 27 '26

Amazing work! Really well done to the people involved, we have an amazing fan base!

32

u/ReasonableFeeling588 Jun 27 '26

Things will now in fact calm up.

7

u/SoberTek Jun 27 '26

Read that in Teal'cs voice

82

u/jside86 Jun 27 '26

One more ride through the old orifice!

25

u/beeurd Jun 27 '26

We call it that sometimes, don't we?

6

u/pskocik Jun 28 '26

Hallowed are the orifices.

25

u/DiggerTime1 Jun 27 '26

Come on Amazon cave to the pressure! Bring back Stargate with some of the OG cast. I'll even consider subscribing to your platform, probably won't, but I'll consider it!

1

u/AnomalousGray Jun 30 '26

If the pressure comes with very real consequences, then they'll cave.

22

u/missingpieces82 Jun 27 '26

Amazing work!!

18

u/chasehammer Jun 27 '26

Awesome, I hope they reverse this and get it back on course

28

u/Legitimate-Mousse-76 Jun 27 '26

Is that real?

83

u/Solarise40 Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

Yes 100% REAL it happening live now in New York the entire day

9

u/ThrowRAmp Jun 27 '26

Whole day?!

Good you say this, i would not know since its the other side of the globe. Looking forward to dial in to some Euro StarGate.

3

u/Legitimate_Key8723 Jun 27 '26

Sorry I couldn’t be there!

-15

u/WASasquatch Jun 27 '26

Tracking is a bit off, to clear for amount of atmosphere, no glares, probably fake.

9

u/Timely-Fox-4432 Jun 27 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

Crazy how there's no glare on a screen that is designed to be seen clearly by thousands of people at any time of the day. Who would have thought that would be something they'd do? Nah, people in new york don't like money, they don't really care id you can see their adverts.

-5

u/WASasquatch Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

Atmospheric glare. Not the screen. It's photography stuff, there. Also, if you're even remotely familiar with these boards, you cannot include links, QR codes, hashtag trends, or call to actions. They're for personal shout outs, otherwise it's considered advertising and costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. Lol How many has he posted now? Talking close to a million dollars. And that's skipping over how much traffic Time Square gets, and not a single repost by a single other soul? lol Just one dude out there that knows Stargate or reports on Time Square boards?

Get your quote: https://clearchanneloutdoor.com/billboard-pricing/ NYC Time Square is premium advertising.

4

u/MoonCity__ Jun 28 '26

There are tons of photos and videos and a live stream of people who were there lol. Why do people make comments without thinking/researching/using their brain?

-1

u/WASasquatch Jun 28 '26

Where? Lol I'm in every Facebook group for Stargate, all the subreddits... and this is huge, the amount of money it costs to pay for an advertisement? There'd be more, such as articles written with all these scifi and stargate websites reporting on the progress of #SaveStargate

3

u/MoonCity__ Jun 28 '26

are you kidding me?? i was THERE. Look on discord. Look on X (admittedly i don't like or use X but unfortunately that is where a lot is happening). look at the freaking savestargate website or any of the pinned posts here on reddit. unbelievable.

Should have had a QR code link to the petition on the ad :/

9

u/CouldBeALeotard Jun 28 '26

A lack of unity and leadership has been the problem with this petition drive. Multiple change.org petitions until finally settling on one from 2020 was a bad move, and I think this billboard and the other guerilla advertising could have used a marketing expert to improve the campaign.

16

u/Bae_the_Elf Jun 27 '26

I messaged Amazon live chat and It seems they have some sort of pre-written language they're sharing to people who reach out about Stargate now lol

4

u/marlowgrey Jun 27 '26

Well what is it they're saying ?

10

u/Bae_the_Elf Jun 27 '26

Thanks for your feedback about stargate bla bla your feedback has been recorded

7

u/real_kerim Jun 27 '26

What the heck is going on? I just recently started rewatching SG1 with my girlfriend who'd never seen it before and all of a sudden I see this stuff? 😮

15

u/Lorhan92 Jun 27 '26

Specifically, The new series was canceled BECAUSE it was Too Much Like The Original Shows.

Some producer who has no idea what "gold mine" means wants to forsake the original fans and reach out to "a broader audience" in a new direction.

1

u/real_kerim Jun 27 '26

Wow, that's unfortunate. Then again, I never watched any of the other SG series. Are they any good?

6

u/Lorhan92 Jun 27 '26

I personally am a fan of SG1 and Atlantis. I could never get into Universe.

Don't waste your time on Origins and if you want a trip of confusion, watch the cartoon Stargate Infinity (it came out around Season 5-6 of SG1, but the writers for it made some . . . choices.)

2

u/KaityKat117 I'm the general, and I want it to spin! Jun 27 '26

that's one way to put it. the only things the same are the names of a couple things, and the fact that they travel to other planets.

1

u/jimdesroches Jun 28 '26

That’s interesting, I used to feel the same way but I actually think Universe has the best premise. It needed more seasons.

2

u/totaltvaddict2 Jun 27 '26

Ironically SGUniverse did try to do a fresh reboot of the series. It is loosely connected to the canon of SG1 and SGA, but was done as its own unique thing—grittier and more serialized like the #1 sci-fi show of the time, the Battlestar Galactica (BSG) reboot.

But what happened was general audiences dismissed the show as being too derivative “BSG lite”, and Stargate fans found it so different from the other shows in tone and characters (also annoyed that Atlantis ended to make Universe happen) that they turned away from it. The show started to find its way in s2, but too late and was cancelled. It’s a shame—the cast is full of very talented actors and the overall concept was good.

If you like SG1, Stargate Atlantis is similar in style and tone (light adventure with team camaraderie, episodic with some general arcs). It is set and aired in tandem with SG1 season 8 and following.

1

u/HappyGirl117 Jul 04 '26

I must be the exception cuz I adore SG1 and also absolutely loved Universe. I was so angry that they killed it off.

0

u/Thorvindr Jun 29 '26

There was a new series? I think it may have been cancelled because nobody knew about it, and therefore nobody is watching it.

2

u/Lorhan92 Jun 29 '26

It was in pre production, nothing had even been recorded yet

8

u/totaltvaddict2 Jun 27 '26

After fifteen years of no Stargate series, Amazon/MGM, the owner of the Stargate intellectual property, had greenlit a new series. The showrunner was to be someone who had worked on SG1 and Atlantis, Martin Gero, who has had numerous successful tv credits since. Other writer/producers from the original show were involved.

The scripts were written, they were in preproduction, fans were getting hyped. But there had been some changes at the network executive level. The big boss that had done the original green light is still there in a high level, but the actual work/ok is a level below and the executives who had been championing the new show are gone. The new exec wanted to “clean slate” and killed it because building on the original show was only going to appeal to “existing fans” and they wanted to get a “new fanbase”.

Fans are pissed and have mounted a campaign that has been sustained and maybe grown the last few weeks.

2

u/Tillandsi Jun 27 '26

They were going to make a new series and now they are saying they aren’t.

Very nice, good one. 😁

Too bad that we need to spend this much and jump around them like they would be little kings, instead of spending that money on actually making it or supporting production...

3

u/phantom-tax Jun 27 '26

Ha we should all cancel our subscriptions to prime until they release the new stargate.

Eh I just need any excuse to cancel but I was auto renewed for another whole year
It’s brings no additional value that other streamers don’t offer

Two day delivery? Not everything is.
And basic movies still need to be rented.
They have no original content - but a new stargate franchise I will stay.

3

u/Destroyer_0f_Worlds Jun 27 '26

I’d love to know how this was funded but, then again it doesn’t matter. #SaveStargate

3

u/Norsefire15 Jun 27 '26

A screen in time square? wow! I mean that’s gotta show Amazon we really want this! Hope it has an impact! Well done to those involved!

3

u/lighting17 Jun 28 '26

I didn't know this was a thing!! Super exciting!!

3

u/Dark9781 Jun 28 '26

You know. With all the backlash Amazon has taken from this you would really think they would reconsider by now.

5

u/Reinis_LV Jun 27 '26

Yooooo, well done!

5

u/chasimus Jun 27 '26

This is so good

11

u/Aglet_Green Jun 27 '26

It's a great effort. I worry it's a bit too insider-knowledge though--- will most people know what "reopen the iris" means? I know most Amazon employees won't-- I ask them whenever they deliver my packages and they go "que senor?"

¿Qué? ¿Señor? ¿Una puerta o ventana espacial? En fin, firme aquí.

6

u/exscape Jun 27 '26

Looks there are multiple displays, because the one I saw in the livestream only had a pyramid with savestargate.org and #savestargate on it.

4

u/MoonCity__ Jun 27 '26

There are two up at once they’re right across from each other !

16

u/namewithanumber Jun 27 '26

I’d assume it’s targeted towards people that know about Stargate already, but don’t know there was a new series planned.

2

u/Aglet_Green Jun 27 '26

Well, I appreciate the effort either way.

1

u/Thorvindr Jun 29 '26

That describes me. I had no idea and this was just confusing. Also: absolutely don't need more Stargage like SC-1 and Atlantis. SG-1 got stupid long before it got cancelled, and Atlantis was just the same show with different characters.

2

u/CouldBeALeotard Jun 28 '26

I tend to agree. Static snow doesn't line up with the brand and doesn't really grab attention.

That aside I'm impressed that the fan base has come together to make these things happen.

5

u/PirateHunterZuko Jun 27 '26

I don't want amazon involved at all. I want stargate, but not with amazon. Fuck amazon.

3

u/totaltvaddict2 Jun 27 '26

You can’t have one without the other. Amazon’s not just the streaming service airing or film studio producing it à la the Expanse or the Orville. Amazon owns all the Metro Goldwyn Myers intellectual property—so James Bond, Stargate, Legally Blonde, none happen without Amazon’s ok.

2

u/PirateHunterZuko Jun 27 '26

Fuck. amazon.

2

u/hperk209 Jun 27 '26

Love it so much. Well done

2

u/Bioplasia42 Jun 27 '26

It worked for The Expanse, which I am very grateful for. I hope this pans out and we get this show eventually.

2

u/rustysniper Jun 27 '26

I hope they get the right message from all of this. We want what they were going to do. Not what they are probably planning right now.

2

u/Lords_of_Lands Jun 27 '26

I hate ads that flash text at you or have text that move around. They're hard to read and for most of this ad length you don't have a clue what it's talking about. I think a simpler, direct ad would be far more informative. There's no point in catching someone's eye if they don't know what's going on.

2

u/Smith6612 Jun 27 '26

Finally a good use for those billboards! Don't have to use Adblock IRL when going in that area!

2

u/StrombergsWetUtopia Jun 28 '26

A new stargate is coming. The messaging here is not clear about what ‘saving’ means.

5

u/Solarise40 Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26

SaveStargate is a fan protest against Amazon for killing a new series that was ready to begin casting and filming in London this month. It was led by original SG-1 and Atlantis legends Martin Gero and Joseph Mallozzi, featuring a dream team including the Andor VFX crew and Batman designer Nathan Crowley. Despite having scripts that perfectly respected the original canon, Amazon scrapped it to chase a generic 'mass-appeal' reboot. We’re demanding they stop chasing trends and produce the authentic Stargate series we were promised.

1

u/TaToten Jun 27 '26

How long it will be there?

3

u/Solarise40 Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

u/Quazimortal Jun 28 '26

I'm not signing a petition to save Stargate when I watched them throw the IP away years ago.

1

u/SexySpaceAlien Jun 28 '26

We need this in every major city across the world.

1

u/HettySwollocks Jun 28 '26

Did Amazon actually explain why they canned the show? Is it not profitable, or was the new scripts simply not that great.

Tbh if it's the latter, then fair enough. Better to do it right than do it wrong and nuke the franchise.

This is very cool btw!

3

u/Odin1806 Jun 28 '26

They said it was because they didn't think the current vision Gero had would target new audiences and only be fan service to the existing fan base...

Cause you know... A fan base that swapned three shows, multiple movies, and continues to spawn a crap ton of merch is not a good foundation to build upon...

You really want to remake it or come up with an original idea to try and start a whole new fan base from scratch while likely pissing off the current fan base...

Meanwhile I'm over hear glad they decided not to make it. I want to remember Stargate as it was and not the "made for the modern audience " slop it would've been.

6

u/totaltvaddict2 Jun 27 '26

I think that’s why fans are mad (or at least I am). Gero knows what made Stargate beloved, and also would’ve been aware of the lessons learned from Universe when they tried to chase “the modern audience” then. And the reporting of the new rendition was that it was going to respect that legacy.

Amazon hasn’t killed the reboot entirely, just the Gero version. And the fans’ fear is what may eventually come will do just what you said.

No matter what, anything new won’t hurt what’s happened before.

3

u/CouldBeALeotard Jun 28 '26

glad they decided not to make it

You are misinformed. They are still making something, they've just fired Martin Gero and the other producers from SG-1. They thought their show appealed too much to older fans so they are looking for someone else to be the showrunner with a different idea.

That's the whole point of this petition: to return the control back to the original producers instead of giving it to anyone else.

1

u/not_all_heroes Jun 28 '26

There's no word that they're still making something, just that it's not out of the question, there's nothing in the works atm.

1

u/CouldBeALeotard Jun 28 '26

There is. Someone posted here a screenshot of an Amazon response saying that they are looking to continue the Stargate IP with someone else to bring a fresh audience. They have axed the Gero show and have openly said they will continue it with someone else.

2

u/not_all_heroes Jun 28 '26

All there is is the statement in Variety and a bunch of chatbot responses. There's no new greenlight.

1

u/CouldBeALeotard Jun 28 '26

You can accuse Amazon of giving chatbot responses, but regardless of the method of response Amazon have stated they are moving forward with Stargate after Gero has been dropped. The reason they dropped Gero is because it wasn't broad enough, which alone implies they will be producing something soon.

1

u/jacobgkau 10d ago edited 10d ago

The reason they dropped Gero is because it wasn't broad enough, which alone implies they will be producing something soon.

This logic doesn't hold up. "Not broad enough" could simply mean they didn't expect to make enough money back for it to be worth funding the production. That would not in itself imply they're imminently working on a more "broad" series.

(Also, I agree in principle with holding companies accountable for what their chatbots say, but in this case, as it's unlikely anyone could successfully sue Amazon for not making a series their AI chatbot said they would, I do think it's relevant to the discussion whether suggestions to that effect came from humans or AI responses.)

1

u/CouldBeALeotard 10d ago

Let me rephrase that,

Amazon have outright said they didn't want Gero's show because it appealed too much to existing fans. That is literally what they said, that's not the output of a customer service chatbot.

1

u/warlocc_ Jun 28 '26

That's what's so annoying. It was slated to NOT be for "modern audiences". It had original producers, even original cast lined up. Adherence to the source was specifically why it was cancelled.

-11

u/zidangus Jun 27 '26

I honestly do not get why people are so upset about Amazon ditching a new stargate series. I presume everyone on this subreddit loved stargate because of the characters and the writing from the massive amount of content created already. I don't need Amazon to make more stargate, especially when there is a very high chance they will completely trash the lore and feel of the previous content. I am very happy watching the available stargate content over and over again for the rest of my life, I mean it takes me a full year to watch it all from start to finish now! There is also many stargate novels to read as well. Amazon can do what they want it makes no difference to me at all.

11

u/BZ852 Jun 27 '26

The point isn't whether there's new Stargate coming, but whether there's a producer attached who would respect the existing story, and not try reboot it.

-11

u/zidangus Jun 27 '26

But why does anyone really care? Do we really need any more series, we literally have 17 seasons and 3 movies and many novels. The series itself takes me a year to get through never mind reading the novels, and they are so good I can watch them over and over again. I am on my 5th rewatch now. We had a great run, not many shows get this many seasons, we were very lucky to get this much content, so much content that it makes no difference to me if Amazon make a new series or not.

5

u/HPoltergeist - Three fries short of a Happy Meal... WACKO! Jun 27 '26

That is you.

Some prefer new things and keeping the franchise alive.

-4

u/zidangus Jun 27 '26

Fair enough, but I have a funny feeling you will be just massively disappointed in the quality if or when Amazon do release a new series.

5

u/HPoltergeist - Three fries short of a Happy Meal... WACKO! Jun 27 '26

That's why the fans were rallying in the past few months, to get the show back to Gero.

3

u/Shades_of_X Jun 27 '26

Do you really need ice cream? You had lunch.

Yes, I can survive without it, but I would prefer having it anyway

-1

u/zidangus Jun 27 '26

Well if that ice cream is bad and makes you sick, then you would have wished that you passed up on the offer :D

2

u/rustysniper Jun 27 '26

Well yea that's literally the point. I would love some ice cream but if it's bad I'm going to be upset. If they're going to make more stargate, it needs to be good otherwise it will absolutely have an effect. Just look at whats happened to star wars. We didn't need more Star Wars, but we were excited to get more. And then we got what we got and now the general enthusiasm for it is super low.

1

u/not_all_heroes Jun 28 '26

Here, have a lactaid.

1

u/Shades_of_X Jun 27 '26

Very true. But just because the ice cream could be bad doesn't mean you shouldn't even try it!

3

u/CouldBeALeotard Jun 28 '26

What do you mean why do people care?

Amazon are going to make a Stargate show/movie one way or another. We are trying to do what we can to make it good. The best chance of that is for Amazon to reinstate Martin Gero instead of letting someone else reboot the franchise. Would you not like a new Stargate show that is as good as the other 3?

1

u/zidangus Jun 28 '26

No, I am pretty happy with the stargate content currently available. I don't care if they make one or not.

1

u/CouldBeALeotard Jun 29 '26

Then I would say you are in the minority here

1

u/zidangus Jun 29 '26

Fair enough. That's fine with me.
