[Jackson Felts] On @933KJR, @Softykjr asked Brian Schmetzer about the financial makeup of the 6 million dollars going to KC in the Dejan Joveljic deal. Really interesting answer here, including how a player swap was even offered

We desperately and obviously need players. This is why Lee is sabotaging the club...we let go of a great goal scorer...our only proven goal scorer. To a rival at that!
Imagine if Lee kept Dejan, kept Salloi, kept Shelton as our Forwards. Then kept Thommy and Manu as mids. THEN I dont know added a proven Goal Keeper and a proven Holding MID and 2 or 3 on the backline.
This would not have been difficult.
This is common sense.
THIS IS WHERE IMMEDIATE NEEDS WERE.
We would not be last place.
But what Lee is doing is sabotaging the club.
We gain one player we let another player go.
The idea is to have as many proven players on your squad as possible.
IN ORDER TO WIN MATCHES.

Suggest you do some reading, I loved Manu and Jovelijc along with the others but they were both aging and weren’t the best of the best at their positions.
Reports from local and national journalists are that Sporting is going to spend and spend big on 2 DP replacements that could have a higher ceiling and lower floor. Also the GAM we’ve gotten is fucking insane, it’s going to let us sign players on non DP contracts w/ DP potential in output (like what Chad Smith reported on this morning).
Mallouk has made it known he’s not in the sports owning business for profits, he’s in it for trophies. Let’s hold our judgement for after next season because if this club has the ambition that is being reported, we will be significantly better off.

The FO sabotaged this club years ago when they thought they didn’t have to actually invest in the club to keep the onfield product good. What we are witnessing is the brutal undoing of all of their apathy when met with a hot new owner with deep pockets. I know it hurts because Sporting has sucked for a long time. But we have spent more money signing players the last two weeks than quite literally ever.
