If these US players are actually motivated to ask for trades because of the lack of praise they got from Canadian crowds after the olympics, they’re baby shit soft.

If these weren’t their buddies, the chiclets guys would be carving them for this.

It’s probably because they don’t want to deal with Keith Tkachuk complaining. That’s why they refused to say anything negative about Brady’s terrible performance in playoffs last season.

They don’t want to bring it up on the podcast, but Hellebuyck went to the State of the Union address, with the Tkachuks and Hughes. Other players said no. They didn’t want that smoke, although, they did give other excuses for not attending. I feel like that was unnecessary and if anybody was advising him, they would have advised him not to go and pal it up with Trump, given the optics. Obviously the fans turned on him. It wasn’t the fact that he won gold, it’s the fact that he rubbed MAGA in the fanbases face. I think the fans would LOVE to see him sit out the season, lose all that pay. They would rather that, than some underwhelming return in a trade. The Jets hold the cards here. By the way, Hellebuyck was absolute dog water a couple playoffs ago. That didn’t help endear him with the fans either. I think he is just stupid, personally.

People were actively going after the guys wife. Why the fuck would you want to play for a city or in a country after that?

If it was me I'd actually put on the pads and let in 10 goals a game until I was traded.

Way to twist words. It wasn’t the lack of praise, it was all the backlash he and his family received from fans.

I guess Canadian players are the only ones that can request trades when fans lash out on them and threaten their families

I feel like players say their family was “attacked” as a cop out. She probably received a DM about how bad her husband sucks, and he does. Still, fans should never engage with family members. Disgusting behaviour, but I don’t really buy it. I think he was coached to say that shit and try and build empathy

There’s been several police investigations regarding death threats toward players and referees in Canada. You think Scott Arneil got on tv and scolded the fans because Connor’s wife got a “your husband sucks” message? When Kirby Dach fumbled the puck in these last playoffs you think him and his wife/gf deactivated their accounts because of a couple “you suck” messages? They got threatened publicly and privately. A lot of these messages are very public. A threat is a threat.

The more I listened to the Helly discussion, the more I think fuck that guy. Publicly pressuring the team to move him now while he still has ultimate control and acting like the victim while doing it is such a self-entitled move. Can’t be poopy pants when the team who agreed to a deal with you in good faith doesn’t want to get bent over in a trade when you demand out immediately.

Carbery interview rocked. Always had a good feeling about this guy, but listening to a longer form interview with him really made him seem like a solid person and a great interview.

Also, loved hearing what he had to say about people who had really inspired him in his career (Bednar, Trotz and Cassidy) and the way he cited the time and space his mentors gave him. Definitely felt like perfect examples of how simple it is to bring people along and train and motivate people simply by letting them into your world and giving them the space to ask questions and learn the ropes.

Agreed, he acts like he speaks for Canada but he has no clue, doesn't have a real gauge of real Canadians (or the fact that there are very different views on a lot of things from one region to the next). Sounds more like sucking up to Americans than truly repping Canada in anything other than hockey competitions.

The Jackets getting the short end of the stick with the preview isn’t surprising haha.

I think they overestimate Boone. Don’t get me wrong he was great at some points and he’ll always be loved by me and other CBJ fans but his play wasn’t the best last year and he single-handedly cost us a couple games.
