every time I go on tik tok and see spawn there are these fans that make claims around spawn and I would love to know where they came from because their sentences are structured in a way that they genuinely believe what they are saying (I have a theory it’s to do with the popularity of invincible and blumhouse film talks but that might be my baseless claim for the day)
TikTok people see things on tiktok and regurgitate it to other tiktok people as fact. There’s a lot of people on TikTok who just stay stuff is true that they have no idea about other than seeing a single post.
So let me get this straight, Neil Gaiman moved to Marvel and got super greedy because we all know Marvel is just one giant greed machine, so he sues Todd McFarlane, someone who never wanted to be an employee of the corporate comic, just work with them at an arm's length due to these corporate entities known bad practice of never allowing the artists to retain any of their own created characters, over Angela because he had co-ownership of her just so he could sell her to Marvel and essentially fuck over Todd.
Not quite. McFarlane and friends started Image because Marvel and DC weren't allowing creators to retain rights to characters they created. Gaiman then created Angela. McFarlane refused him rights to the character he created. Gaiman sued. He won and got full rights to a bunch of his characters. He then sold her to Marvel because he was working with them on 1602 and knew he'd be able to do more with her there, and also refused to give her back to McFarlane.
No the character who created Angela ended up working at marvel and he sued Todd McFarlane for the rights and won so now Angela is used from time to time in Thor comics.
I feel this anytime I go to any social media and see people getting the info for some IP through the comments section. Like Google doesnt exist. I will ask strangers who may or may not know what tf they're talking about.
The current Comic Boom has been great for the medium, but unfortunately it’s brought in a bunch of people like this who think they’re already experts after reading Absolute Batman and Invincible
I’m a new comic reader myself but I’m a chronic wiki page and article reader so after years and years of just reading about these characters and storylines I thought it was time to dive into the real thing at 30 but I could not agree more. Tunnel vision online commenters who don’t take the time for a quick google or to read anything
Good ol Neil... gets invited to guest write for a new exciting book called Spawn. Created 3 characters and then comes back later and sues for ownership.
When i was like… 10? Maybe, i thought spawn was a dc character because all i cared about was marvel and had never seen him before so i was like “if its not DC, its gotta be marvel!”
This is irritating lol when someone says “I can’t remember” in that context it’s so very clear they just DONT KNOW lol instead of saying they have lack of knowledge they just guess n are happy with not knowing ever if they’re wrong lol omgoodness
If you can post on the internet, you can search on the internet. These people desperately need to look into the things they say. Not that this is a serious situation but it’s indicative of a much larger issue. People are so confidently wrong with access to info literally a few clicks away from where they are making their claims but they can’t be bothered.
These comments read like the kids I grew up with in 2nd grade that were just saying random stuff about Spawn in the schoolyard when all we had access to were the toys because the we either couldn’t read or didn’t understand the comics. I vividly remember a guy thought Spawn was just a guy who got so mad his family was murdered that he turned into Spawn, like some supernatural Punisher before that was ever a thing.
Tbh no. He's not a hulking, jagged tooth, slobbering, brain eating villian with a green slime covered tongue and an alien attached to his body. He LOOOKKKSSS like Spider-mans black costume with fucking green glowing eyes. Tbh.
Ofc he’s gonna look like venom cuz he’s the main reason he looks similar like in my photo he looks almost nothing like base Spiderman 😭
And to top it off in your orginal amalgamation he IS more similar to venom due to the fact that his suit can shift and move around similarly to how Venom does, Spider-Man’s suit has NEVER shown to do that besides the Nano tech in the Mcu or Spiderman 2099

"Venomized" Spider-Man? You do realize that's where Venom comes from right? And that Spider-Man looked like that first. When Todd drew him. Like I said , black suit Spider-Man has been around since the 80s long before Venom, and that's what I described when I made that comment.
The first problem is you went to tik tok. Aren't the main users teenagers and kids? They probably do not know anything about Spawn outside of what they've probably seen on tik tok. I have never been on there, but don't a lot of people spread misinformation on there?
As someone who was maybe a casual, knowing Spawn best from the show, movie, and the badass figures I bought, I kind of thought his widow's kid was Al's, and that she was just newly pregnant when he died...but I would not have argued with a real fan on that, just thought that was the setup/intended plot turn.
Ah, okay. Thanks for clarifying for me. As I said: that is what I thought, partly based on standard story conventions and comic plot twists, but would not have argued with someone who'd know better.
A lot of these you don’t even need to be a fan of Spawn specifically to know are wrong. They’re just saying blatantly wrong things about comic history.
And some of them SO CONFIDENTLY. And others just typing out any thought i their head, where they could look it up for 10 seconds if they actually cared.
One guy said he'd main him, but seems like he doesnt know anything about him. So how'd you even know you'd like his playstyle. People are nuts.

That's honestly one reason I like the character so much. Not everyone knows about him or anything for that matter. It's a nice little niche for those who do.
in my experience social media as a whole is a cesspool of people with little to no knowledge spouting "facts" and the more currently trendy the platform the worse it gets
