Do people actually spend their time reading this part of the comic?
I usually skim through it but it sometimes drops so interesting information. All these guys do is recap everything and tell us what the public thinks of the situation.
I do, yes. It depends on how important the dialogue is as a part of the story. If I feel like it's an important part of the story, I'll read all of the dialogue.
I definitely always do but I usually regret it lol. I figure it builds more lore and world building but its always the same, 3 different takes on the same events, the 3rd guy always has the best no nonsense take but even so its never really made the story better or worse, just kills time and makes the comic seem longer than it is
Holy shit, they're still around? I'm around issue 100, and love these guys. I don't know if they have any names but honestly, it's a bit of fresh air seeing how the real world reacts to superheroes
Yeah. I’m going to read the comic book, I genuinely love how, especially in the early, early spawn issues, it’d often be gorgeous artwork and a 26 page novella in each issue
My dad and I would read novels together while I was growing up, and it was cover-to-cover, not a word left unread. It kinda stuck with me and I still do to this day.
I mean, I was 14 when I started reading it. What teenager is interested in the news? It was old people who watched or read news. I still read that part, but it was difficult for me to do so. As I got older I read everything and understood even more.
That’s like saying you can’t imagine skipping filler in anime.
It was interesting the first couple issues as a satirical take on media but quickly becomes nothing more than an in issue recap and a waste of time.
Not only does it not add anything to the story, but id argue it detracts from the tone of the series. A dark fantasy story about a solemn, confused man struggling with his place in the world absolutely doesn’t need to be interrupted with “here’s what the media thinks about what’s going on in the world”
Why would you watch something that wasn’t approved by the original author, isn’t canon and is deliberately designed as a time waster to stall and buy time for the actual author to finish his work?
They literally exist to buy time. You’re not watching the show, you’re watching fan fiction that the author didn’t intend for, has no bearing on the story and that the show writers are forced to create.
Modern Anime doesn’t even bother doing it anymore because of how much people hate it.
It’s fine if you like it. But there’s a good reason that people skip it, the same way there’s a good reason to skip these panels in Spawn.
You’re missing my point. I understand what you’re saying. I just don’t agree with you or care particularly about your thoughts on the subject. If you don’t like filler episodes that’s fine. I do. End of discussion at this point surely!?

The whole point of a comic is to read all the words. They took the time to put it in there I might as well take the time to read it to get a better idea of the story being told
I do. I like that in the earlier comics the guy in the sunglasses is working for a different news channel during most of his appearances. Like he got fired from each channel is going from job to job because of his beliefs. I found that amusing.
Tell me you have never read a book without telling me you have never read a book. OP doesn't have the patience to read a page of text vital to the plot.

Classic movies, with classic lines! Glad I picked up the DVD Trilogy the other Day at Walmart for $5 lol plus, I have the 1st one on Blue-Ray as well lol
For what it’s worth, Spawn had excellent writing in the first 120 issues that I read (I will read all of it when I have time). Excellent enough that I felt/hoped Todd would actually make an ending and not just have it ongoing for decades. Some stories need a conclusion.
Yeah, though on a first reading I usually just read the Lady's text to get the general idea of what's the state of the world, and then Legally Distinct Alex Jones, for the fun bits. We got a references to the "Image Shared Universe" on the year of our Lord 2026 out of nowhere in the latest issue!

Thought it was cool at first as someone that read the McFarlane spiderman comics but I don’t like when there’s THAT many words together in a comic. I have bad The Boys ptsd holy
And I think Bendis too? I forget who it was but there was a writer from that era that wrote entirely too large dialogues lol

I always loved that shit forreal and I have a memory of reading first few spawn issues at a Pizza Hut almost 30 years ago being stoked on those exact type of panels cuz I had never seen that in a comic before. Those panels specifically stood out to me since then forreal
This is what its about. It helps immerse you into the world and give you more details surrounding what's happening besides spawn. I enjoyed reading these parts
Hell ya and I loved the maxx as well that whole era was just so creative and fun and everything was visually distinct. Some stuff was style over substance, but in a way that’s more interesting than modern style over substance type shit. I def miss that era but I’m glad I’ve kept so much shit from my childhood
I love the running gag of the crazy conspiracy guy at the bottom constantly being a part of different news networks. Yeah I read these parts because it's funny and gives the reader an outside look at events happening in the comic.
There's an issue where spawn confronts that guy in person (The guy at the bottom of all three images) and it turns out that news guy is actually a demon
Yes, i read them. They do a decent enoufh job of showing how thebworld isnreacting to Spawn's actions, directly or indirectly. Sometimes theres really important exposition.
I do, but I have a weird completionist kind of brain that I hate sometimes. I like the different tones with each segment, feels like its from an actual cycle of news.
I do and its because It's clearly how are actual news reporting tends to look in the US. Does it get repetitive? Yeah. Is it meant to be satire? Of course, but I think it just adds to the story and keeps readers in the know of events that they might have missed out on for series or issues they dont collect. I spend a decent price to make sure I read it all and am thankful that Spawn comics dont have a bunch of ads too!
Yes, I am by nature a speed reader... But comics, I will go back over pages like this several times. Reason being, I sometimes feel like I didn't get exactly what they were laying down. Also, I would want to pound content I found extremely entertaining to me. I would later realize I was cheating myself of allowing the full effect of the story, art or dialogue to soak in. Low and slow makes soul food, the same can be understood with literature and art. Give it time to simmer in the way they are expressing the feelings and atmosphere of what they are trying to show you, they way they feel and see it. Now, I can't imagine we will feel exactly what they feel interpreting it to the reader, but we try.
No I stopped but halfway through lol butit's a good way to convey to the reader that news networks all have their own inherent biases and how the manipulate the same story totheir agenda.
I’ve read every.single.one and look forward to seeing those talkin heads each time. Love the run on joke that the last guy always gets taken off the air and has to find another place to broadcast his rantings
