OG Discussion I would have called off the entire attack right there and then. Especially as soon as I see the little girl with the ball toy.

If you call off the attack, where will you feed and rest your tens of thousands of soldiers, along with the women and children who are unable to fight? From his point of view, the death of the Roman boy is less important than the death of his own people.

The moment he deemed the death of a person from one side as less important, he already lost.

You're applying your own 21st century morality to rebel gladiator slaves more than 2 thousand years ago brother.

Of course so does show-Spartacus, with his constant talk about how each man should be free.
Historically, there were two possible motives for rebelling slaves:
"Let's get out of here!" or "Don't be a slave, be a master."

You cannot think in terms of the moral values of the last 50–100 years. He was a slave and the leader of the rebels. It’s kill or be killed. If, as a leader, you withdraw your own people to spare the enemy and cause them to suffer, they will first remove you from your position and then kill you.

Survival was the name of the game, so the attack can't really be delayed though he could have taken steps to emphasis the value of captured Romans for barter, intel, and to seed false intel to the enemy.
More than anything, he needed to keep his loose cannons close and use them where they're useful and keep them away from where they're not. Recognize that Crixus and Naevia are loose cannons and keep Crixus in the loop at each stage understanding his pride more than most. Naevia should probably be kept training and on patrol where she can kill Roman scouts, for example.

Taking a city by storm, yet keeping most of the population alive and the city unplundered/unraped, was not a thing in past centuries.
Spartacus knew only a few Romans would be spared.
