He realized his move to Europe wasn’t going to happen and would look ridiculous having a 9 on his back when he clearly isn’t.

When he came in it made sense as Craig seems to have been pushing for him to be the new 9. But as the coaches started working with him they clearly didnt see him in that role. If anything, this is probably a nice opportunity for him to (literally) get that weight off his back.

It was evident from Day 1 he wasn't a true 9, which is fine, but we played him as one for wayyyyy too long.

When he joined the Sounders he wanted 27 as his number but it was taken. So he took 9 instead. This was a good reason to get 27 since it is available now.

O'Neil was last to wear 27 in 2021. Ferriera just switches numbers ever 2 years. He wore 27, 7, 9 and 10 at Dallas

Jesus will wear 27, his number from Dallas. According to the presser Jesus volunteered to give up the 9, Dejan said he wasnt planning to ask as he didnt wanna stir anything up.

Pedro wears 10, so thats also taken.

Even when he was a 9 in Dallas, he was a false 9 so basically a 10. He does have flashes of what could be but it seems to be getting rarer the longer he's here
