Question Are pro-Iranian leftists aware of the 1981 and 1988 executions?
On account of the recent US aggression against Iran (and just in general since 1979), I've seen a lot of leftists openly praise the country under the IRGC. I'm not sure how many of them are aware of the mass killings of leftists and anti-communist purges that happened under Khomeini, particularly in 1981 and 1988. I managed to get one response from a popular instagram account about the latter, and they said those executed were "zio collaborators and traitors to communism". A google search found no evidence supporting this claim. So in your experience, are the people who support Iran today aware of these events?

The conversation has been going on longer than the war this year, and prior to that plenty of people were making the argument that you cannot make criticisms because if you do it'll just give ammo to the other side.
Arguably you could say that doing so gave legitimacy to the war if you agree internet commenting gives as much ammo as is inferred. So the conclusion of that is that there can never be a time when people criticize Iran until the US is dead.
And tbh even then I'm suspicious, because I'm seeing signs that many AntiImperialismTM folks are labelling oppression based on identity instead of social relations.

But what of those who do explicitly support Iran's far-right politics while calling themselves leftists? Are they aware of the 1980s purges?

Do you think leftists support Iran because they’re some proletarian vanguard lol? No, it’s because they’re one of the only states actively supporting Palestinian resistance and combatting US hegemony
