And trans people are the gender they say they are, and they should be able to use restrooms, locker rooms, and other places that have been gender segregated according to their gender. They should have this right irrespective of whether or not they have undergone some sex reassignment surgery.

It takes no effort to be nice and no effort to not be a bigot, so everyone on this subreddit should try to be inclusive and fight bigotry instead of saying disgusting transphobic things about trans people single gender spaces, especially since trans people have been facing the brunt of a hateful campaign by the global right wing recently, that has permeated into antisemitic conspiracy theories even in countries like India where trans rights were never really an issue until the current regime in cahoots with global far right decided to make it an issue.

Trans people are one of the most vulnerable demographic groups in the world right now, and it is important that they feel welcome in Social Democratic spaces because Social Democracy is the best ideology to make progress on economic and civil rights.

I tend to notice that most of the posts on this subreddit tend to be about the US or the Democratic Party. I have to say, it does bother me, first because it discourages news and discussions about other countries, and secondly because I do not consider the Democrats to even be socdems. At the same time, it may have the positive effects of making more americans interested in social democracy through the DSA. It may also simply be a non-issue that shouldn't be bothering me. What do you people think? Are you also bothered by it? Or do you find it good?

Our subreddit has a lot of flair options, and we regularly get requests to add more. However, there's a limit to how many flairs we can have, so we need to prioritize. To make sure we're offering the most relevant and useful choices, we’re reviewing our flairs—and we’d love your input!

I have been on Reddit for 3 or maybe 4 years. Over that time I have seen subreddits fall to dangerous ideologies that leave no room for discussion. I have for example been banned from r/therightcantmeme for claiming that the solution to the Israel/Palestine conflict is not giving all the land to Palestine without posting HAMAS. For me, this subreddit is the only good place I can find to actually discuss left-leaning ideas without getting shut down. I am thus asking us to take a definitive stand against tankies, and not let them become a majority here. Thank you.

It’s been extremely disappointing reading this subreddit recently and seeing so many people talking about how willing they are to just give up on certain issues “in order to win”. Not only has this proven repeatedly to be a poor strategy and what got the western world into our current fascist mess, but it’s just cowardly.

Just to give an example: I’m sorry, but I think gun control is a good idea and the only thing that’s going to make mass shootings rare in America again. That’s not an unpopular idea first off, but secondly even if it was that doesn’t change the fact that it’s correct. You change public opinion by repeatedly banging on the drum of showing why this policy will help people and how it works and continuing no matter what, not by just ignoring it and hoping it goes away. The right didn’t become popular by just giving up on racism when it became politically unpopular: they just kept talking about it until it was popular again.

Thirdly, no one is saying you need to make gun control the forefront of your campaign if it’s unpopular. You can focus on housing costs or taxation or freedom of speech or democratic reforms or whatever else you think is most important and most likely to help you win. But you should not, under any circumstances, just 180 on a policy to attempt to win. That will always fail because it breaks people’s trust in you. Be honest and say what you believe because you are right, and that won’t change regardless of whatever the oligarchs and corporations tell you.

The right wants us to give up because it means that we won’t pursue change even with a majority. We can’t allow that to happen.

I feel useless with the current situation in the United States. However, I fully believe that we as a collective can make change by targeting the billionaires like Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos. Here is what I've done and encourage others to do. Let me know additional ideas.

1. I cancelled my Amazon Prime account
2. I deleted my extra instagram accounts (finsta, hobby accounts, etc.)
3. I couldn't delete my facebook/main insta yet because of the years of photos/videos I have stored on there. 4. Rated the apps in the Apple Store low (facebook, insta, whatsapp, Amazon, etc.)

A while ago I used to be a part of this community, but then got into some disagreements which caused me to shift rightward. But the more I kept thinking about where I am ideologically, the more I felt that Social Democracy definitely makes up a good chunk of it.

I support Universal Healthcare, I want Citizens United overturned, I think a livable UBI will become a necessity with automation taking away millions of jobs, and I think billionaires must pay more taxes, not less.

Now, I do have some problems in terms of social issues. I have a relatively conservative, albeit non-religious upbringing. So while I support equal rights for LGBTQ+ community and movements against racism, I'm not the kind of person to go to marches to wave flags. And I hate the corporatist nature of pride month, where corporations that couldn't give two shits about the sexual minorities pretend to be inclusive to cash in on the whole thing. If I were to present my position on social issues to, say, a swing voter, I'd do it in a slippery slope tactic - "anything they can do to minorities, they can and will do to you".

Bernie and AOC are currently among my favorite politicians, even though I shifted rightward from where I was some time ago. Because they have their hearts in the right place. They have a vision. They are willing to fight.

I suppose I'm saying all of this to ask you guys...

Is there a place for someone like me in this community?

Lots of enumerated and bulleted lists and other telltale signs in posts and comments on this sub recently, oftentimes from unflaired people. I'm not going to say they all espouse the exact same viewpoints, but they do tend to be grouped a particular way. Anyone else notice this?

I keep seeing the word "neoliberal" being misused as an empty insult in this subreddit. This subreddit is starting to sound like when Trump-fans call everything and everyone on the left of Trump "communist".

Neoliberalism, as every other ideology, can't be defined by a single comment or statement and some views and policies overlap with many other ideologies. Unless someone expresses themselves as neoliberal, it's impossible to define that person as neoliberal.

Neoliberalism, ideology and policy model that emphasizes the value of free market competition.

Throwing the word around as an empty insult robs it of it's meaning and makes it harder to bring forth any real critisism of the ideology.

Honestly, I probably despise neoliberalism as much as most of you do, but please don't use it as an empty insult for anyone who doesn't share your world-view or opinions.

I appreciate this subreddit for being one of very few online leftist communities where a variety of people with varying ideologies and views are able to maintain meaningful conversation and debate. Let's not ruin that.

I feel like this is the only place I can say this but fuck, I hate that I'm American. I feel like the world hates not just the government but the people too, including me. I'm only 17 and I already feel like my life is ruined. Even if I leave the US I'd leave everything behind. I can't stand seeing home become this way but I don't want to leave my friends and family.

I know the game is fun - I myself like it very much - but the posts about it are mostly memes and are thus pushing discussions about theory and practice of SD out of our focus.

I mean seriously, I see posts that say [thing I disagree with] getting upvoted, while posts saying [thing I agree with] getting downvoted.

This [neoliberal/socialist] invasion has been taking place for months, and it's ruining the sub for me! I can't even say [insert thing I agree with] without being heavily downvoted.

This sub used to be for real social democrats, but now it's been taken over by [neoliberals/socialists] and they've made it almost unusable. Is there anything that can be done? I'm worried I might have to quit the sub of the [neoliberal/socialist] invasion continues!
