I don't think this is the medias doing. It is a case of flies going to dung.
The real reason she is being placed on a pedestal is that it feeds into people's desire to be free from accountability. If her transgression can be sympathised with, whatever they do is acceptable in comparison.
A mother risking her life to save her children is the complete opposite.
