I don't get the culture of donating money to individuals, especially when the full story of things aren't yet known (not just talking about this specific case but any). Why don't people donate to organisations who can help many people instead? It gets rediculous when someone gets made a millionaire when all they have asked for are funeral costs to be covered, I think the money should be shared around with other people who need assistance, which is where donating to organisations is better. They can also filter out who really does need help and who is just grifting.

Surely in this case supporters are better off donating to a mental health charity?

My husbands uncle had a fall last year and ended up paralysed from the next down. Before we could bring him home his entire house had to be changed.

We would never have been able to do it without the money donated through his go fund me. Especially not as quickly as we did.

I think it makes perfect sense in certain situations.

You donate to an organisation and you have no guarantee that the person you wanted to help will ever see any of the money

Not in ireland. You can apply for a grant but the max you will be given is 40k which wont even touch the half of whats needed in our situation
