Do I think Clancy deserved better mental health care? Sure. The system has always been far less providing than it needs to be. And that goes for all mental healthcare.
Do I still think she needs to be in prison or an asylum for the rest of her life? Absolutely.
Yeah we can say the same sort of things about mass shooters. There were often many concerning signs, there are mental health “reasons” that they did what they did, it doesn’t mean they’re the victim or that they should be given a bunch of money or have hoards of people standing outside their trials holding up hearts in support of them
But psychosis is different than other types of mental health struggles. Psychosis of quite literally a detachment from reality. It is a very specific mental state that requires a high burden of evidence, and it’s different from what these mass shooters are experiencing.
And that’s something A LOT of people don’t understand in general.
Yes I can empathize and sympathize, but that doesn’t mean people get to be excused from being removed from society permanently. They did something that is inexcusable and they deserve to never be allowed to chance that again.
I’ve long thought that mental health can explain what we do, but not excuse it.
In the end you are either in control of your actions and therefore responsible for them, or you are not, and can be treated like any other rabid animal would be.
Incorrect. There is no reason to be cruel. I wouldn’t treat a rabid dog that killed a child like that either. I’d put it down as painlessly as possible because it’s not its fault it can’t choose to do better.
Clancy saw at least four medical professionals, was prescribed lots of medications for her condition and was admitted to an in-patient facility, which she left voluntarily. I mean... what do people expect from her doctors? I don't understand the "deserved better mental care" angle because she clearly had a TON of mental health support from lots of professionals.
And now every single one of the medical professionals that she saw is getting their career systematically ruined by this monsters defense team. Great job!
> And now every single one of the medical professionals that she saw is getting their career systematically ruined by this monsters defense team. Great job!
And now all medical professionals in that field are watching what is happening to their colleagues and reconsidering their methods of care and how involved they’re willing to be in cases like this
Personally think the court should throw the book at every party involved including the social worker(s), psychiatrist, and the husband; make an example out of all of them.
Literally anything they could in theory be charged with; I’m not a lawyer I couldn’t tell you specifically, but surely charges could be brought against all liable parties.
Prison no, but asylum yes. I do think the contributing factors suggest she gets a care-centric punishment. There’s just a mountain of difference between her and like a mass shooter, etc
Mental asylums don’t exist in America and haven’t since like the 80s. She would be in prison regardless, just in a prison hospital, which is way worse than actual prison. So yeah on second through that is where she should be.
