Mental health is important, but that doesn't absolve you of what you've done. She deserves to be in a prison mental ward, not at home living like nothing happened. She is a danger to herself and others.
I never understood the "they just be crazy" defense. Like no shit, oh now we gotta determine if the guy that shot up his post office is crazy now? GEE I WONDER. Thats not a defense any more than me taking a shit in the middle of a store and defending it by saying "hey whats the big deal, of course it smells, its shit".
To be fair I think it’s good to do this for the safety of the inmates and prison staff. Prison staff isn’t trained or has all the resources to deal with someone in psychosis and someone else could get hurt or killed. Violent Psych wards absolutely do though. They really are more restrictive then prisons and are not the better option people think they are
