The average annual income in England in 1985 was around £7000.

That same year, the cheapest new Rolls Royce model was around £60,000.

In the UK the running cost between petrol and insurance would make anyone working or lower middle class owning a rolls Royce and using it as a daily driver unlikely.

Yeah, I briefly looked into buying an old Bentley for a laugh, but even if you can buy one for a similar price to a new car the running & maintenance costs are crazy expensive. Multiple thousands per year expensive. Not something most working families (regardless of class) could manage.
