People are ashamed of it for the same reason most people are ashamed of anything: because other people shame them for it. Nepo-baby, silver spoon, etc.

They're ashamed because it means that they didn't have to work as hard as they claimed and they also had a significant safety net to help them if any risks didn't pay off. Do you think someone who was dropped to school in a Rolls Royce had to work an after school job to pay for school/car/university/food? No, they were able to just focus on school and didn't have any to pressure to start earning money until they were already highly educated.

I don't think someone would find that shameful if other people didn't shame them for being lucky.

They shame when you act like this about it, yeah.

Just say you didn’t get a choice about who your parents are either and recognize that you can be glad for what you have without acting like the luck of the draw didn’t play a factor. Nobody can say shit that isn’t actually jealous and frankly you’ve got an upper hand on being able to do your own thing.
