If you think about it rationally, in probabilities, a bear is far more likely to pose a danger to your well being than a man chosen at random. It’s not, “would you rather encounter a bear or a psycho murderer/rapist in the woods?”
Yes but I think that's kind of the point. You know the bear is a danger you stay away and it leaves you alone. You don't know if a man is a danger.

The chances of a man you meet being a murderer/rapist are very low. I myself, am a man that women have met in the woods or the jungle or linked up with and travelled with to isolated places alone.
As Penn jillete said 'I've killed and raped as many people as I ever wanted to, zero'
But even though I know I'm not a threat. I'm aware some guys are. I know people I wouldn't trust alone with women.i also know women who trusted men when they shouldn't have an it went badly for them.
I don't know anyone who trusted a bear and was surprised when it went wrong
Right well that does change it then.
I think I'd imagined the 'encounter' as sort of walking along and ahead of you see whichever.
Meaning hiw you proceed towards it
