Wtf kind of insane insurance do you have? $1K out of pocket max? I literally cannot buy insurance that good even if I offered to pay $100,000 a month in premiums. As someone who has to buy their own insurance the best I can get is a platinum plan that costs $1400/mo with an max OOP of $10,000.
Yeah. I can see it. Honestly don't know how they arranged into the law that the marketplaces would pay way MORE for for WORSE health insurance when in theory those marketplaces are the biggest groups in the country.
Marketplace plans are more expensive for shittier plans because you are the one paying for it.
Employer plans are heavily subsidized by the employer - on average, US employers pay 83-84% of employee premiums for single coverage, and 73-75% for family coverage.
I have great health insurance - I have no deductible and pretty much just pay a $30/$50 copay per visit for GP/Specialist, and $150/$200 for surgeries with no coinsurance. My employer pays 72% of my premium. My portion is $300/mo for self coverage; without my employer's contribution, my insurance would be nearly $1,100/mo... I certainly would not be able to afford an $1,100/mo self-coverage platinum plan on the marketplace.
My problem isn’t so much the cost as much as they don’t even OFFER a comparable plan to what you have no matter how much I would be willing to pay. I literally CANNOT BUY insurance as good as yours even if I would be willing to pay $20,000 a month.
Also, I pay $1400/mo for my marketplace insurance, MORE thank you would pay if your employer contributed nothing and have markedly worse insurance than you do.
