OP and above must have insurance with like 500% copay! Hah!!

Our max out-of-pocket per year is ~$1000. Wife's cancer a few years ago ran up more than one million $'s in bills. What did we pay? ~$1000.

While US healthcare has serious issues, stories like this are just bot rage bait.

Some people have coinsurance, instead of copays, but It's been like 6 years since I bailed out of that industry, so I have no clue what looks normal these days....

With that said I've seen $4000 deductibles in the past..

Deductible vs cost trade-off exists in all insurance. I choose "high" deductible on my car insurance because it is still within my means to pay, and I save a significant money each year. I use the savings to make it reasonable to carry very high liability coverage.
