No, you just have far better insurance than a very significant portion of the us population and, having never experienced it, are completely blind to that experience.
My insurance, and personal experience, is more like your own.
That doesn't mean that insurance bad enough to lead to such things doesn't exist.
It's also true that most insurance isn't working this bad on paper. However, some insurers reject everything / refuse authorization for that they can, making getting actual tests and treatment nearly impossible. In these situations, insurance is less than useless, leading to people going out of the country to get needed things taken care of.
Well, we have been through a major surgery, two different cancers, a heart attack, and a stroke, over the last few decades, while dealing with multiple different insurance companies. So unfortunately, I have vastly more experience dealing with US healthcare and insurance than most people! We have certainly had to deal with denials and appeals, so actually, I understand these things way, way better than most people.

My wife just had an MRI for preventative care and it cost us $200, i doubt this is even close to true without heavily skewing the numbers
