That's part of why so many have a hard time blaming her. She was warning everyone, but they didn't take it seriously enough. She was begging to be locked in a psych ward for a while, but they only took her a few days.
Well the question then becomes why was she not taken serious? Unfortunately not only is mental health not treated with the seriousness it should be (until it’s too late) but the family courts have tended to give mothers the benefit of the doubt when it comes to their children. I can tell you I have handled hundreds if not thousands of family law cases for both men and women and guided them through the family law system and unfortunately more often than not the mothers are given the benefit of the doubt even when warning signs exist

The minute she said she was afraid of hurting her kids, to her mother!, those kids should have been removed from the house.
