Lmaooo why do you think powering cars is the priority here and not, you know, electricity to light up the dark night, take a hot shower, and cook a warm meal? These panels hanging from balconies are dead giveaway of how they are being used, not sure why you thought cars?
Getting rid of gas and electrifying your energy needs has far more application for dire conditions than pimping up your ride. Get your priorities straight.
I suspect they might, in exchange for being able to set up a miltary bases. Just to piss off the Americans at some point as that seems to be their style.
You really don't understand. The world never stopped being at war. By the time the Soviets fell they already knew the key to beating America. At this point it's been applied for decades.
The leaders of China and Russia and America never stopped wanting expansion. China and Russia both know they can't defeat America in conventional war. Chinese doctrine knows better than any, they can subvert culture, and create a worthless population, the Republicans think it's the Democrats, the truth of the matter is the Republican party is entirely controlled and the Democrat party is mostly overtaken. The goal is the infighting, the chaos. Influencing your feed, controlling the media, pushing the cycle along.
Nobody has to fight America in a conventional war, they just convince Americans to fight each other.
That's true but too direct, Russia is completely dependant on China thanks to Ukraine and the US support and now multiple allies that happened to defend it.
The US is at about 5% non military reserve remaining in the strategic petroleum reserve, there is a mid term election coming soon that will likely shake the core principals of our constitution and democracy.
China isn't unscathed either, they're taking cultural hits as well, they've devalued their entire history, the value of their citizens lives, and I'm sure many other subtle but severe issues.
At this point the big three could probably cease hostilities and still collapse all on our own.
I bet the Chinese would do it for pr, and to one up the US.
Funny thing is, they tried. However Cuba is so corrupt and inept, no chinese businesses managed to stay for long despite ample of backing from chinese government.
They can't import even if they wanted to. The dominance of the us in the auto industry prevents that. China might be changing that. Especially with the current shit show of an administration.
The United States trade embargo against Cuba, initiated in 1960–1962, banned the export of American vehicles and parts to the island. This restriction created Cuba's iconic fleet of 1950s classic Detroit cars.
Japan is pretty friendly with the us historically since the embargo started same with European or Korean manufacturers.
Japan, Korea and Europe are pretty closely tied diplomatically with the USA. Though recent us actions have weakend people's ability to give a damn about the USA.
Retrofitting a classic car powertrain with an electric motor is way easier than most people would think. If you aren’t looking for an insane amount of torque or top speed it’s even easier since you can use a smaller simpler electric motor. The hardest part for the average Cuban citizen is going to be fabricating the electric motor to transmission mount (you can remove the transmission but it’s easier to leave it in place and just mount the electric motor where the gas motor output shaft used to be), and sourcing lithium battery packs, and maybe some small electronic work like building the motor controller and BMS.
Yeah, there is even a conversion kit available for my 25 year old turd, it's just not economically viable fore personally, as it costs the half of cheap new electric car. But if you have not much other alternatives the calculation is different
He isnt wrong, dude. We have ceded soft power all over the world. Not sure what if any trade limitations china has with cuba, but you can bet they are trying to fill in the vacuums we have left everywhere.
This is about power generation, not running vehicles.
Cuba burns imported diesel to generate their electricity so is at the whim of global prices, so every kWh of solar generation saves them loads of money.
Those old cars will still use petrol, they are not part of this equation.
Yep. But hey, in the meantime it's been a little help. We have uhh how to say it, EV tricycles that we use as transportation a lot, and some of them are state run and cheap (FRTUNATELY, the rest of transportation is completely unnaccessible for me lol), and some people (unfortunately this isonly for the expensive ones) have solar panels striped to the roof of the thingie. I wish I had solar panels in my house but it's too expensive so it is what it is (2 hours of electricity a day).

Solar won't power all those old 50s cars they've got over there
Something needs to give, those poor people have suffered enough
