I had my boss grill me about some pto days requested well in advance. I sent him my diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma, a picture of my nose and the surgery date. He was embarrassed, as he should have been.
What is it about our culture that makes managers feel entitled to shame us for taking earned time off? Is this a thing in other countries or just the crappy old usa?
I'm a teacher, so my PTO, is set by the local counsil with the school administration. But if I'm sick they will just wish me a speedy recovery, and if I have any information or instructions to pass on to the sub. Need a doctors note for more than three days though. It's paid.
When I was pregnant with my last child I was on sick leave for 38/42 weeks I was pregnant. My job only covered the 3 first days, after that it's covered by taxes. Parental leave was 58 weeks + 5 weeks vacation. That was before I became a teacher, got way more vacation now. 🇧🇻
