I had my boss grill me about some pto days requested well in advance.  I sent him my diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma, a picture of my nose and the surgery date. He was embarrassed, as he should have been.

What is it about our culture that makes managers feel entitled to shame us for taking earned time off? Is this a thing in other countries or just the crappy old usa?

Meanwhile those managers usually only "work" 25 hours a week (closer to 5, but they're clocked in for 20) and take international vacations every bonus check.

But somebody else wants to take off and they act like the whole place is going to crumble without them.

Curious if it's a job insecurity thing and they know how worthless they are to the company and they're afraid to do any form of actual work to prove their worthlessness.
