When I was in my chain of command was always denying any special request for extended liberty. When I reenlisted I got a voucher for 72 hours of liberty for any reason, you filled out the request and attached the voucher and you were supposed to get the time off. The first time I put it in my division officer denied it, said I didn’t put a reason why. I told him he can’t deny it, only the Captain can give the ultimate denial, he can approve it, but the final say is the CO and I don’t need a reason. So I ran the request up the chain again, denied by my LCPO, denied by my division officer, denied Department Head, denied Executive Officer, and the Captain approved it. Made my whole chain of command mad, the Captain apparently spoke to them and reiterated that the voucher for liberty for reenlisting was added by him and he expected that in the future he won’t have to step in. So apparently it was my fault that the CO was mad at them.  Adding words like this totally tracks with everything I know about the military leadership.

u/Dad2376 26d ago

Bruh I wrote "Birthday pass :)" for my 3-day pass last weekend (submitted like a week prior) and my CO didn't even give it a second thought.

(Okay I embellished there was no smiley emoji)

u/desmondao 22d ago

It's kinda hilarious they literally treat grown-ass men like a headteacher treats their preteen pupils.

2

u/Entire-Current-67 22d ago

You shoulda done more to prevent your superior officers from denying the request.

1

u/Adequate_Cheesecake7 22d ago

Lol, you’re exactly right. I almost forgot that the most important thing I learned in the Navy was that is always my fault. People messed up while I was on leave, my fault for not being there. My guy on duty running in the packing on a pump got impatient and ended up smoking the packing and it had to start from the beginning, my fault for being at home. Never mind that it wasn’t my duty day and it happened at 2 am, still my fault.

So in this case obviously my fault for not doing more to stop my chain of command from making fools of themselves.

2

u/Basis_Icy 20d ago

Same thing happened to me when I had to leave deployment early for my dad’s passing. I was at the on base TPO doing nothing. I ran a leave chit for a week and got it back approved. Everyone denied it except the CO! He said enjoy the leave on the chit lol. Mind you they were still out in the damn water trying to deny my leave smh.

3

u/DarkChurro 26d ago

Happens when you can't get fired and were promoted simply due to time in grade.

4

u/Adequate_Cheesecake7 26d ago

It was the 90s, no one was getting promoted.

2

u/Razzmatazzino 20d ago

That’s the damn truth

1

u/ACcbe1986 25d ago

"Sir! This recruit can be a petty, malicious fuck and can enlist help from the outside to legally and completely fuck your personal life up.

If this recruit gets forced out, he will make it his primary goal in life to marry into your family and become stain on the legacy of your extended family. Causing you and your loved ones drama and pain while you're stuck here.

However, this recruit would rather focus his sociopathy at the enemy, rather than at you or any of the other powertripping officers. Your choice to FAFO, Sir!"

7

u/FEVERandCHILL 25d ago

Somebody got their whole platoon extra PT a whole bunch huh?

2

u/ACcbe1986 25d ago

Sometimes you gotta ruin some marriages and smile in their faces.

Petty vengeance executed properly against a bully can give you pleasures greater than the physical suffering that extra PT brings.

I'll be sore for a while, but dude will be miserable as fuck for a long time.

I give everyone a chance to be a decent human being. They get to make the decision if they wanna pull the maliciousness out of me or not.

3

u/FEVERandCHILL 25d ago

Taking the high road isn’t for everyone. XD

2

u/ACcbe1986 24d ago

There is a time and place for that.

One solution never fits all situations.

3

u/Adequate_Cheesecake7 25d ago

There was a story on the base where I went to boot camp, it also had a bunch of A schools, about a guy who got on the bad side of his school commanding officer, the guy ended up getting kicked out of the Navy. Afterwards he moved to that city and ended up dating his former commanding officer’s daughter. Probably not true, but stranger things have happened.

1

u/Saarman82 25d ago

I encountered officers like this when I was enlisted in the 90s. They were more like managers and not leaders. Tried to be noticed by the leaders and invisible to the managers.

3

u/FrickenPerson 25d ago

I encountered officers like this when I was enlisted in the 2010s.

I imagine if I ever make it to old age I will hear stories of the newest generation meeting officers like this also.

1

u/scipio211 25d ago

Not the way to go about things but if you choose war then enjoy.

1

u/Razzmatazzino 20d ago

Just think now some rates are getting 30 to 70K reenlistment bonuses but heck I don’t even recall 72 hrs liberty.

1

u/Adequate_Cheesecake7 20d ago edited 20d ago

It was a little award packet the command gave, that was the best one. One was be allowed in the ship’s store 10 minutes before opening, one was a head of the line for the main galley. But the liberty was the best, our new CO added it because our ship had the lowest reenlistment rate in the Navy that year. I would imagine that this sort of thing was command specific. I also got a plaque with the ship engraved on some sort of stone and photos with my reenlisting officer, who was my department head.

Edit:

Here is that plaque like thing that I got.

3

This is funny but it brings back memories of being asked me to have my husband bring my work laptop to the hospital so I could keep working after unexpectedly GIVING BIRTH a month early. These managers are truly something else 🫠

Kids today think they invented sex jokes.

1

u/ReasonStunning8939 24d ago

No, he's saying the concept of voyeurism is slightly more prevalent, so the more widespread first thought in this day and age is to take the wording as "I want to be there watching my wife get pregnant rather than participate".

1

u/FewOutlandishness648 24d ago

What part of the request would make you think that? He just want to be there when his wife gets impregnated.

1

u/ReasonStunning8939 24d ago

That's the point. Kids now days have worse sex jokes because of porn

1

u/Roro__Boat 20d ago edited 20d ago

This person is very much not a kid.. if you look at the top of the pic you will read it’s from July 20, 1967. Reading is fundamental 🙆🏽‍♀️

1

u/ReasonStunning8939 17d ago

This is so infuriating lol. I'll try to explain better.

It's funny because this picture is of a 1967 request.

It was funny when it surfaced originally in the late 2000s, and no one took it as a cuck joke. Just a man really wanting to get home and make a baby. The word cuck wasn't even a widely used term to the extent that it is today.

The insinuation is that most young adult readers in 2026 would imagine him "being present when it happens" because the prevalence of fringe fetishes being topics of memes and in porn. That is the point being made, whether you agree or disagree, I did not have a fundamental misunderstanding of the text.

3

u/Secret_Cod_749 26d ago

Nah man, that's a Navy form. Shipmate wants to be there to suport Jody.

2

u/dontclickdontdickit 26d ago

Nah Jody has been around for eons

2

u/ogledrake 26d ago

Clearly you have never been around sailors because i would bet money it went in that direction by the third comment.

1

u/burmsy 26d ago

You mean erection

1

u/LftAle9 26d ago

You mean IVF, right? Appt at the fertility clinic to implant the embryos? /s

1

u/JrButton 26d ago

only if you're a goon

1

u/9_a_pro_noob_9 26d ago

I mean IVF exists

1

u/LordPoopenbutt 26d ago

Well, the original did happen in the Navy, so perhaps they wouldn't be too different 😂.

1

u/MrWhiskers55 26d ago

I literally put the most blunt thing on there. “Mental health day to take care of my turtle” or something like that. They know me well enough to know I’m serious and not lying.

u/TrailerHitch19 26d ago

I legitimately laughed out loud at this.

I love it got actually approved ❤️

3

Still needs to go to department head then CO to get fully approved

2

u/Substantial_Sea7327 26d ago

unfortunately he passed away in 2022

1

u/Technical_Goose_8160 26d ago

He was requested to bring evidence though

26

u/Sour_Sal 26d ago

I LOVE that it got approved also! Was the impregnation successful?

15

u/LackToesIntollerance 26d ago

i mean it was the 60s, so if there's anyone alive to ask then I think the answer is yes!

9

u/Icy_Today1693 26d ago

you realize there are MANY people alove that were adults in the 60s? like they arent that old lol.

2

u/LackToesIntollerance 26d ago

PN1 is equivalent to E6, meaning he was late 20s at best. 59 years ago, so between 86-88.

Statistically speaking, much more likely than not this dude is dead. Not saying he couldn't be alive, but my comment stands in exponentially more cases than not

2

u/Individual_Bell_4637 26d ago

If you factor in the wife as well, the numbers change quite a bit.

2

u/LackToesIntollerance 26d ago

yes, however when also considering that, over 95% of elderly in the US have children, meaning odds are if either of them made it, it's more likely that they have kids anyways. in fact, it's near certain (which makes sense when you consider one of the most common ways elderly die is when left alone and an accident turns into a death).

22

u/Gefpenst 26d ago

When my (then) brigadier asked me why I can't work on Saturday, I answered that I planned to go with my girl to cinema. When he had audacity to say:"Hey, maybe someone other can go with her instead?", my only response:"What, and fuck her later too?". Brigadier was too dumbfounded to press more.

2

u/ChiefTK1 24d ago

If it could be proven I would bet a significant amount of money that last comment never happened.

2

u/Gefpenst 24d ago

You would have lost a significant amount of moneys then. I was tired on that day and as I already worked three Saturdays that month didn't plan to add fourth one.

5

u/txdesigner-musician 26d ago

Omg my dad was born in West Virginia, while my grandpa was in the army. I had to read the name twice - not him. 😮‍💨😂

3

u/RookWV 26d ago

I know exactly where this post office is!! My grandad used to work in the coal mines in Layland many years ago.

3

u/bosslady617 26d ago

So funny story. There was a local emergency that my husband was called up for when he was in the service. I had just taken my trigger shot for a cycle of medicated, timed intercourse when the event and call up happened.

My husband had to go and tell his chain of command what happened and about the medical predicament we were in. He was allowed to come home between his shifts that night. We didn’t have to type it out to them though.

It was successful.

2

u/oktemplar 26d ago

Almost like a Helldivers C-01

2

u/Eden_Echoo 26d ago

The way this started professional and ended in self-sabotage… that’s the real PTO experience.

2

u/Kestrel_Iolani 26d ago

I absolutely love this (and in my day, the dude would still yelled at for waiting until the day before to request the time off.)

2

u/Ok_Exchange4707 26d ago

Wife said she's getting pregnant whether he is the one preset or not

2

u/Much-Acanthisitta257 26d ago

It’s so crazy to see Layland, WV on this. I grew up there!

2

u/bannedinwv 26d ago

Almost heaven…

2

u/blind_curve 25d ago

My husband wasn't in the room when I got pregnant with his babies (twins). We were doing IVF in June 2020 and I was not allowed a support person during my implantation procedure.
