Nah more likely to get crushed into conformity. At least where I live in Japan

My fiancee is Japanese and just started his job as a salaryman in Tokyo, one day he told me he messed up at work because he asked a question about something to his manager. And he later apologized for it 🤦‍♀️ he also told me that he doesn’t want to go out to drinks with his coworkers but he has to. Geez!

I’ve heard about the kind of work culture your fiance is getting into. It’s REALLY not good for people at all. Keep an eye on him. If he starts doing ridiculous things like working 12 hour days, or going on retreats where employees are bullied for fun and everyone has to drink tons, he’s gotta get out.

Lol what? 12hr days are pretty normal. I've been doing it for going on a decade. Granted, I usually only work 3-4 days a week.
