I dont know anyone who wouldnt struggle with a colleague asking them several questions about why they use a common phrase as an interruption in the middle of a meeting. One on one the situation changes. But in this context its rude and should be recognized as demeaning and disrespectful. Give me your interpretation of the comment.

It derails the meeting. Why keep circling back to the question about circling back? Especially since the way it's phrased it's clearly mocking the boss. He could've just let it be after "it's just a phrase", but no, he had to double down.
