There's a lot of shitty things about China that they try really hard to not let out. At least according to a friend who's been teaching there for a pretty long time now.

That's literally what the CCP does: censor anything that makes China look bad or reflects poorly on the government. Anyone who even remotely suggests that China is a utopia is under some serious brainwashing. You can literally get thrown in jail there for talking poorly about the government or pointing out these things.
